I agree. The 16 yr old I lost two years ago always had very firm stools but had anal gland problems all her life (I had to empty them every week).

In my experience some dogs have problems as youngsters but improve aged about 4-5, whilst others are OK up to about 7 yrs old and then become problematic, regardless of what they are fed.
