Encouraging Cali to eat raw?
Hi everyone,
I have recently started feeding my two raw. I fed them raw first on Thursday, but mixed it with their old food and done this again on friday. However, on both days the ignored their old food and only ate the raw. Logan is a gem, he wolfes down anything I give him - mince, chicken wing and drumstick is all he has been offered so far. Cali, however, is being a wee monster at the moment. She likes her mince, and likes raw chicken - if I break it up into pieces and feed her it. She also seems fine with bone. I am going to find a supplier soon, and hopefully be feeding more mince with meaty bones as an extra, but I want her used to the taste and texture of the chicken. What do you suggest to encourage her to eat it? Do I continue to break it up and feed her it until she is used to it, or do you have any other ideas. I'm personally new to feeding raw, but know a bit about raw from my boss and colleague, however their dogs eat anything they are given, and have since they changed to raw. Any help greatly appreciated ![]() |

Re: Encouraging Cali to eat raw?
I found peeling back the skin on chicken pieces worked wonders so they could work out what it is, also my girlie prefers me to hold a chicken quarter wilst she munches on it (dont think she likes the raw meat on her paws

Re: Encouraging Cali to eat raw?
Thanks, I'll try that!
I gave my mum instructions for dinner - this is the first time she has fed them raw - and when I get in she tells me that Cali doesn't like the raw diet and wouldn't eat. My instructions included the line 'If she won't eat it whole, chop bits of chicken off for her, feed her them then offer her the bone' I asked her if she did this - my mums reply "No, I'm not ripping raw chicken apart" Well, hello, that's why she didn't eat!!!! They don't get their old food with it, it was just getting wasted so I stopped giving them it. I'll keep persevering - we will get their in the end - I just need to find a good supplier of minces, as this is definitely a favourite with them both. |

I dont know where you are, but try looking up my supplier and see if he goes near you, we get our stuff from him and never had any complaints

Thanks, they do deliver to my area which is great. I've heard from a colleague about some rubbish suppliers, so it's great to get some recommendations. I'll have a look at them tonight. |

Re: Encouraging Cali to eat raw?
My mum's Crested can be a real pain in the bum when it comes to food
Sometimes I'll give him allowances so, I'll mix his sardines (which he doesnt like ) in with his green tripe (which he loves) But other times he's just trying it on. Then if one of the other dogs gets it (rare because he starts eating it before they get it) or I pick it up and take it away. Then tough he'll just have to wait till the next meal. He has been like this since we got him (on commercial too). Try the peeling the skin back for her as well ![]() Have you tried lamb bones or pork bones yet? Sometimes they go down better and get them used to the crunching and chewing and then they handle the chicken better worked with my crested ![]()
