Ears

Lincoln has big Spaniel like ears and looking in them you can see that they are a little dirty, my presumption is to clean them out but I don't know what with or how or if doing this I will hurt him or damage his ears.

Any tips?

Re: Ears

I got some stuff from the vets for my Springer, but I know some people use baby wipes- I probably will next time.
You have to clean down quite far. It doesn't hurt and you have to do them quite regular-I do once a week.

Dermacton is good, they do an ear cleaner and drops. www.aromosse.com/
if you want to check those out.

Clean Aural is good too, Gentle enough to be used for regular ue of cleaning both infected and healthy ears. It will disolve accumulated wax and debris too. or there is Epi Otic ear cleaner, that is for routince cleaning and maintanance of healthy ear canals. These two you can get from Vet-Medic - the same medicines as your vet at consistently low prices. or is one place, probably cheaper than the vets, although you can get them there too.

Re: Ears

Baby wipes but be careful not to shove any dirt further in or down his ear canal. There are liquid ear cleaners you can get that you literally pour in and leave, worked fab on Zak. I've just used Thornit for a few days as he was shaking his ears loads. (powder, can get it from eBay, fab for clearing infections or mites)

Think I'll give it a go with baby wipes, have to do it while he's sleep though cos he's an absolute nutcase the rest of the time!!! I guess you'd know exactly what I mean having them too?!!!

Re: Ears

If you use any sort of wipes I'd use the vet recommended special formula ones - purely because floppy ears have reduced air flow to dry them, so any moisture left inside could lead to an ear infection.

I use drops with Charlie (my Beagle). Quick squirt, rub his ear for a minute (don't know why - vet told me to), dry with cotton wool, done...until next week
