2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Kenzie had her 2nd chicken wing this morning and diarrhea tonight. The last time she had diarrhea was last weekend when she had her first chicken wing. Seems like it's too much of a coincidence for it to be something else upsetting her tummy.

Should I keep trying? Or write it off as just not agreeing with her?

I dont know. I used to give them as treats without a problem. Molly is fine with wings but a leg really upsets her stomach. Are the wings really meaty- they seem to vary a lot in size over here. I couldn't say whether shes adjusting or chicken isn't her thing. Hopefully someone will be along with a less confusing answer

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

That's a difficult one - definately sounds as tho it's not agreeing. Heidi is fine with raw but cooked chicken goes straight thro.

I would be inclined to stick with it a bit longer purely for the teeth and anal cleaning benefits

Perhaps as suggested, try a different shop or give her half, may be smaller and try building up.

Not able to explain this one but Heidi used to be able to tolerate beef ribs and after a tum upset cant anymore. Her first attempt with lamb bones was dire. Tried her with a small breast of bone a couple of weeks ago and she is fine.

Their tums seem to cause us a whole lot of problems, hope you solve this one with Kenzie

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Well the poor mite was up at 5am this morning with the runs, and periodically since then, although I think she's ok now.

I might try one more small one with her in a week or so, and if the same thing happens then I'm just going to have to write it off.

Aww bless her, that's definately not good. If you are going to try it again I would really consider giving her just the tip and no more rather than overloading her if she is sensitive to it

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

I am definitely no expert, especially as we have had to stop giving Beau bones shortly after rehoming him as he considers them really high value and guards them with his teeth however I found that chicken skin was making his tummy funny so maybe take the skin off them before giving them to her?

I did wonder if it was something the chickens were being fed accumulating under the skin? I wasn't buying organic free range wings for him so wondered if it was nasty stuff like antibiotics or growth hormones etc

Good luck and stick with it for a little while it can take a while for their tummies to catch up

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Are you a commercial food feeder or a raw feeder?? Makes a whole difference in what I'm about to say but as you've only give 2 wings a week a part I assume commercial food!

Anyway some dogs do like a detox whenthey get raw (lots get this when they are transitioning too) basically because of all the additives and processing that goes into dog food raw food can cause a detox, the squits, sickness etc until it's all out of their system.

Also check the sodium content in the wings too much sodium causes the poops along with itching etc

Now there's a thought
At Christmas I thought Heidi would love the turkey wings - major squits. Skinned them and she was fine
