Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

We are Barfers and buy Natural Instinct where all the bones are ground down so as not to irritate the gut yet they are still getting the goodness of them. Mine love all the varieties but the mixes are their favourite (ie chicken and lamb or chicken and tripe etc with all the raw veggies). I was priviledged to have a tour of their factory and all the food is SOOOO fresh and their food prep ares are cleaner than mine will ever be! I would be worried to feed chicken wings for fear of irritation.

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Well she's still squirty Poor thing.

Do you think I should try some chicken meat (when her tummy has settled down again) to see if I can pinpoint if it's the chicken itself or the actual wing?

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Is the chicken wing the only chicken she has? No chicken kibble or wet, may be a bit of cooked chicken occasionally??
If she doesnt and you want her to have it, then I would get her well and try the tiniest bit.
If she is used to chicken in her food, could be that cooked is ok and raw not.

I would concentrate on sorting her tum at the mo. Do you have any junior kaolin? A spoonful on Heidi's food firms her up a treat

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Well she has cooked chicken as a treat but not much. She's been on wet puppy food with chicken in (WW and ND) and has been fine on that.

I don't mind not giving her chicken wings, it just seemed quite a common thing to give them so I thought it might be good if she can eat them. There's plenty of other things I can give her.

I don't have any kaolin I gave her some pro-biotic yoghurt with her Ziwipeak tonight though (I thought her tummy had cleared up and gave her a meal). I guess maybe if she's still runny tomorrow I'll have to give the vet a call to get something for her.

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

May be just give her a little pro biotic yogurt tomorrow morning and see how she goes for a couple of hours. If she's ok, then a v small meal of ziwipeak or you could revert to fish and rice for a while.
Hopefully she will be right as rain in the morning - everything crossed.

I gave up on Heidi with lamb bones ages ago and when I tried again recently, she was fine and I was shocked. Perhaps if it is the wings, you could forget about them for a while and try again at a much later date

If I ever give chicken as a treat its cooked and skinless otherwise I know the dogs will have problems. Otherwise I stick to the fish.

Re: 2nd chicken wing, 2nd bout of diarrhea

Well she hasn't had a poop this morning which I think is good news. Her stomach was making some pretty weird noises in the middle of the night though - it woke me up!

She's only had yoghurt this morning, might try her with some food a bit later.

That sounds much better. Hopefully the yogurt will settle her tum. Perhaps give her another spoonful 10 mins before food.
