Royal Canin Satiety.

I'll list ingredients.
Vegatable fibres,dehydrated poultry meat, wheat gluten,tapioca,maize gluten,maize,hydrated animal proteins, animal fats,wheat, beet pulp,minerals, fish oil,fructo-aligo-saccarides,L-tryasine,soya oil,psyllium husks and seeds,sodium polyphosphate,hydralised crustaceans,taurine, marigold extract,L-carnitine,hydralysed cartlidge.

Protein;30%
Fat;9.5
Ash;5.3
Fibre;17.5
And a list of additives

Jay has been on this food now for around 7 weeks. It claims to lose 2-3% of body weight a week. Shes lost nearly a kilo and a half. Shes also on Metacam and her mobility has increased, but we need to lose more weight. I want to put her back on Raw[160grams a day] but I'm worried the weight loss will stop. I'm not a fan of RC anyway. Can anyone see whats in this food that is dietary please?

Re: Royal Canin Satiety.

I'm quite surprised in the protein and oil content - not sure but would have thought it a bit high for a slimming food.
RC has way too many cereals and the price is too high for it but that said - it has worked well for a lot of dogs.
I think if it was purely to lose weight, I would consider the senior version of a better brand or try and cut back the raw a bit and stick with what her tum is used to.
I'm sure a few raw feeders would be able to help you plan a low calorie raw diet.
Bottom line is you have to do what's best for Jay and unfortunately that isnt always what we want them to have.
Good luck

You have to import your raw? Why not make it yourself?

Re: Royal Canin Satiety.

Well, instead of the minces you could be feeding chunks of meat and offal and raw meaty bones - all of which you should fairly easily get from butchers in France. Particularly, if I remember rightly, French butchers have a greater range of offal available that we have here in the UK.

If you don't want to feed chunks and want to feed minces, then it might work out cheaper for you (and also give you some control as to what goes in the food, which is one of the bonus points of raw feeding imo) if you invest in a mincer and make the mince yourself too!

Just a thought....

Re: Royal Canin Satiety.

Ah, thanks. I dont feed much in the way of minces. I import because its cheaper!!! The price of meat now here is extortionate[sp] With Albion it costs about 15euros a month to feed each of my other 2.

If I bought in the shops-and I have done, Rabbit is around 10euros a kilo and a pigs trotter is 3 euros.

Ah, ok! Lol.

But no matter where you are, rabbit is expensive . I guess the reason why commercially prepared raw minces are relatively inexpensive is because a) they buy in bulk, and b) of what is currently available and c) it might include a lot of trimmings (nothing against the use of trimmings but it is the ratio of those to meat that I guess matters).

In a bid to make it more affordable to buy stuff in France, have you befriended a local butcher or two or three to see whether they can give you things more cheaply that they would otherwise bin? Have you checked the aisle of your supermarket in the evenings when meat gets marked down?

Sorry, I will shut up now

Re: Royal Canin Satiety.

No, its ok I've done all those things. I can get some beef chunks-not fit for humans but its fine and thats a euro a kilo. I buy whatever is going out of date as well. I rung all the abbatoirs in my area and they say they aren't allowed to sell direct to the public, but, a lot of french feed raw as well and so I'm thinking they give it to their friends. Its a case of who you know
