Re: Occasional limping

Hi Katie, with my two dogs it was on an off lamness , they wld be sound for a while and go lame.
My vet did at first did the rest and anti inflamatory route , then after a while x rayed , in the bitch they couldnt see any probs at all, but sent the xrays of to a bone specialist and he saw the changes straight away .
She was operated on at 16 months on both elbows and is fine now , she occasionally will go unsound but have been told to keep on exercising.
My boy again xrayed at 10 months he has it in both elbows and has slight HD but with him its a watch and see.
Your vet will advise you the best action to take and its not the end of the world as I thought it can be managed .
But your pup may have just sprained himself as they are all nutters at this age LOL

Thanks fiona, that was really helpfull! Im hoping it could possibly be that his muscles/joints just get stiff if he lays awkward for to long, but better safe than sorry. He's not the luckiest of dogs when it comes to his health, im dreading what he'll be like when he's older.

Re: Occasional limping

Hi, I hope that everything goes well at the vets. I have a 7 month old GSP who has had limping issues twice now with a temperature both times. The second bout started last Wednesday whilst out for a walk and he just started carrying his back leg. He'll be fine for a while and then as stiff as an old man. My puppy trainer mentioned growing pains when we went yesterday so I whipped him off to the vet again this morning and it's pano.

A straight forward course of 5 days of pain killers with enought to cover another bout and we're be good to go again. The only downside is he says it could carry on with Herman until he's about 18 months old.

At least I know it isn't something that I'm doing and it's just one of those things as he'll be a big lad so try not to worry and I hope all goes well. Let us all know how you get on. xx
