Quick question for raw feeders

Just out of curiosity, if you feed raw do you need to make sure your dog gets fruit/vege? Do dogs need anything other than meat in their diet?

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

I used to do veg but found it wasn't really needed, mine get their meat, bones & offal, 2 fresh eggs per week, 1 tin sardines a week, pro biotic yogurt and cottage cheese occasionally mixed in and htey get everything they require from that

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

I only feed veg if I have some left over or some that needs using up. Otherwise I just use the normal ratio of 80/10/10 plus they have sardines, yoghurt every morning and eggs about twice a week.

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

Thanks Just wondering really.

I find feeding really fascinating, the more I learn about it

I'm currently playing with ideas in my head about feeding McKenzie, trying to decide whether to move Kenzie to more of a raw diet (Ziwipeak, don't have the space for true raw) or the other way to more of a cooked diet.

It's very interesting to think about.

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

I do raw (80/10/10) with probotic yoghurt in the mornings and a tablespoon of raw veg mixed in. I also give Mia whole carrots, chunks of swede etc as snacks. Mia absolutely loves fish as well, sardines or pilchards in tomato sauce or whole cooked sardines. Jana feeds raw btw.

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

Yes Jana was interested that I feed Ziwipeak.

I was thinking of moving onto Orijin because although I like the Ziwipeak, it's not very interesting (looks like cardboard) and I (now) know that you're not supposed to feed raw and cooked together so didn't really know how I could make the ziwipeak more interesting for her.

But you guys have given me all sorts of ideas - yoghurt, egg, sardines etc plus I can probably throw in the occasional chicken drumstick or bit of mince or can of Ziwipeak wet.

Re: Quick question for raw feeders

I've been feeding raw for about 4 years now, the litter we just had were weaned on raw and have all thrived, all their new owners have kept up with raw so was well impressed by them all, agree u do need the space if u have more than 1 dog, I got my OH and my breeders OH to erect me a huge shed with electrics, then went and bought 2 freezers so we had separate for the dogs stuff, cost me a small fortune but I was determined this was the route I was taking and being a woman don't do things by halves

I know some folks feed raw some days and complete the rest, my only concern is raw digests at a different rate 2 complete, but i know some who do it with no ill effects, I agree its a fascinating subject and could talk about it all day
