Re: Intense scratching
I think either this is food allregy or something else present in your home. Try changing the sleeping place for few days and observe the results. After that try changing the food. Don't do both at one time otherwise you won't be able to find any solution to the problem.

Re: Intense scratching
Thanks guys for the support!
@The3DChis and Twiggy - We haven't given her anything different from the usual, so I suppose it's not from the food we are giving her... @ Malmumcomfy - thanks for the collar links, I haven't seen those, so it's really useful info, would definitely serve me better than the pure scarf thingie ![]() @ Ridgielover - the boots and socks won't work I have thought of such approach, but.. all of our floor at home is tiled, so it will get really slippery on the high-speed turns for her, and I wouldn't won't to risk it @ Cockerpoo lover - it's not the collar, we put it only when we take her for walks and for the rest of the day she is free of all clothes and collar stuff. Thanks for the Dermacton advise, did check it, seems good, will take it in mind for the future! @ welshdoglover - nope, no lice, we check on a regular basis, each day just in case, because it would be the easiest explanation @ Jazzy - will consult my vet about that... 18 months sounds terrible, I hope it's fine already. Now Roxy is better, I guess the treatment works, the wounds dried out. She had some shots, pills and a certain ointment for the external application. No scarf now, no scratching, I hope this will last permanently. Thanks again for the advises, you've been quite a comfort ![]() |

Re: Intense scratching
i kno this probably sounds weird but have you washed the bedding etc recently in biological washing powder or sprayed febreeze in the house? my dog cannot tolerate either of these and has herself scratched raw until i realised what it was. piriton will help with the itch until the rash clears.

Re: Intense scratching
My pug has had a lot of tests recently as she had a rash and baldness underneath. Following skin scrape, biopsies and bloods we found out she was allergic to wheat, beef and milk. New food prescribed, so hopefully she can come off her antihistamines soon.
The vet said that allergies can develop at around 18 months and that they will start to show a reaction to foods/outdoor and indoor allergens that they previously did not react to. |

Both of mine scratch excessively. None of my other dogs ever have but Candy has since she was young. Toffee was fine till she went to the groomers and now she scratches as much as Candy. They both stopped when they went to stay with my sister and started up again when they got home. I had a friends dog staying and that scratched and was fine when it went home. No idea what is going on. Since the scratching started the carpet has come up and been replaced by hard floors, they have changed foods too and shampoo so got no more ideas on it. Candy used to have piriton which helped a bit but made her too sleepy. Luckily they dont make themselves sore but it is still very annoying for us to listen to and for the dogs to feel so itchy. |

Mum2Heidi put me onto this for their tum issues but I've noticed that although Roo scratches occasionally (mostly stopped when I swapped his food) he had started again, think because his coat is coming through and he needs stripping. Since they've been on this, pair of them have stopped. They also get tin of sardines a week each, that helps too.
