Bull Mastiff believed to be poisoned

Hi, we need help with our 6 year and 9 month old male bull mastiff. We live on a small island in the Pacific, Chuuk, Micronesia. Someone came to steal from us, and we believe they poisoned our dog. The folks in our village think whoever poisoned him used tobacco or a native red pepper, mixed with bread. They use this method often to kill pigs or guard dogs. We thought at first he had had a heat stroke, but everyone here says he has been poisoned. We don't have access to a vet, although we called one in America and she said there was nothing we can do. He is shaky, unstable, pants, and only licks his food from our hands. At first his tail would stick straight out, or off to the side. He has a bowel movement about every 3 days. At first he kept walking into corners and standing there. Now we get him to lie down, but he seems to be very weak. It has been three weeks since we believe he ate the poisoned bread. What can we give him to eat? We have been giving him milk mixed with rice/bread and cooked eggs. We also give him coconut milk, as he likes that. The vet we called said we could give him Benedryl to calm him down, so we have been giving him that. Is there anything else we can give him?
Thank you.

Re: Bull Mastiff believed to be poisoned

All I can suggest is try him with some cooked fish or chicken.

I do sympathise with your situation but you need to consider what is best for the dog if he is so weak. It may be better for you to take the decision to have him put down now rather than him dying of starvation if he is unable to digest food properly.
