Chronic Diarrhea - IBS? -

Hi there - I just joined in the hope that someone has some experience with this!

Shadow is 22 months old. I bought him of gypsies who told me he was 8 weeks old. The vet said he may be 4-5 weeks only. He only weighed 2lbs 2 oz when I took him home. He passed blood when he was 8-9 weeks old. I fed him scrambled egg and rice (according to what my hoemopath recommended).

To cut a long story short, Shadow always had at least 1-2 loose stools (diarrhea) a day. In July this year he passed blood again, had a temperature and was poorly. He allso suffers on/off pussy 'willie'. His ears/nose/tummy still seem VERY pink (may be inflammation?). He has a yellowish patch on his back (vet said it was fat from not digesting proper?). After having a number of hoeopathics and intolerance testing we found that Shadow is highly beef intolerant, Lamb, pork, duck and also lactose (dairy), so NO yoghurt/cottage chesse anymore. He was than put on strong digestive enzymes, probiotics, more homeopathice. His stool tests come back perfect!!

Shadow is a ORGANIC RAW fooder. But now he is on the Hills prescription diet (3 weeks and 2 more to go). There is hardly any improvement. He still passes 2-3 'normal' stools in the morning, followed by sofft stool, than spoon fulls of diarrhea, and most days followed by small amounts of water. Straining every time. I must say, his pink ears and nose seem lighter pink.

I am very worried about his diet and what the hell is wrong with him. He is VERY fit. Energetic. Beautiful. He hasn't got one gram fat on him. But also, he has lost 4 kg in weight since on the hills diet.

ANYone has any ideas? I NEED HELP!!!

Have a read through this

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Dogs

Our Chessie suffered terribly and nearly died.
Our answer was pro biotic paste, Sulfasalazine and Chappie original tinned food.

Has your dog also got sickness at all?

Re: Chronic Diarrhea - IBS? -

hi there and thanks for answering. No, my dog doens't vomit. He is his normal self exept for the straining and diarrhea. He is treated HOMEOPATHICALLY and is a RAW FOODER. All his food is organic. He is not vaccinated, neither has he ever had any tin food or pellets (they expand and drain the bones. eventually cause arthritis).

My homeopathic vet said today that he will have this for life. And if I wanted to know more details he would have to do a biopsy, but he said that he would not recommend it. He also said that Shadow's symptoms are classically for inflammation etc.

Very odd that Shadow's first 2-3 morning poo's are normal and than they get thinner, than diarrhea and than water. It's only ever spoons full, but it is frequent, maybe 5 times every 5 minutes. I call that straining, as not much comes out.........

PS. regarding the antibiotics, I would not give that to my dog and he never had any.

Re: Chronic Diarrhea - IBS? -

The signs are classic of IBD.
When your dog gets as bad as ours did, I can assure you that you will do what is needed.
We were within a few days of ours being PTS.

what is GSD? Yes, he has been tested for EPI. Although all was normal, he had strong doses of Digestive Enzymes.
