lerbo is on a distinguished road
sore paw

Hi my Cavalier has developed a sore back paw during the snow and ice. I thought he may have scraped it on ice. He won't leave it alone now, licking it until it is raw. I can't see anything in the paw but it is now very sore between his pads. I have covered it in a sock and bought a mikki boot (far too big and cumbersome though). Have an appointmant with vet tomorrow but any advice would be appreciated, thank you

Re: sore paw

It could have been the grit and salt thats put down in the snowy weather it can be a big irritant to dogs paws and pads. The salt and grit can cause the pads to crack and bleed so this could have been the cause. Its always wise to wash and dry their paws as soon as you get back, Even when the snows gone the salt and grit can remain.

With licking it too he may well have an infection in it now too so as you said you aare taking him to the vets its wise as he may need antibiotics now and they may even give him anti inflammatorys too. Depending how bad it is they may also tell you not to walk him for a week or two to give it a chance to heal.
