Natural Dog Food Company

Hi - been looking at Natural Dog Food Company again. I know there is a post in the Classifieds section but I am thinking of giving this a go and wondered if those who are feeding it could give me some feedback please?

Which varieties do you feed and how does your dog do on them?

Many thanks!

Re: Natural Dog Food Company

I recently got some samples through. Chester loved them. Thinking of swapping to this as they are cheaper than his current food and he would be fed less too. They do 2kg bags of all 3 flavours for £22 I think for the lot

Hi,

I have been feeding my 2 beautiful Border Terriers on Adult Salmon & Adult Chicken from the Natural Dog Food Company for qiute some time now. I have to say, in my opinion it is without question the best dry dog food on the market today. I am a huge fan. My 2 girls are doing absolutely fantastic on it..........you only have to read the ingredients to see how good it is. A couple of friends of mine have recently switched to it too.....one who has a Border Collie who suffered from IBS, has been feeding NDFC Adult Salmon for 10 weeks now & she is amazed because there are no signs at all of IBS. Another friend has a Golden Retriever who had skin & coat problems.... ' a different dog, beautiful condition' her words to me recently regarding her dog's coat. I really can't recommend this food highly enough...................give it a go, I guarantee you won't regret it. It's still relatively unknown & the big pet places don't stock it, however you can get it direct from NDFC ( but pay delivery ) or I get mine from an online retailer who deliver FREE ............ Re: Natural Dog Food Company

After a debate with Roo, I went for the natural dog food company. I was undecided between that and fish4dogs but was swayed by the all natural ingredients. Mine have the lamb and brown rice and am very pleased with the results so far.

It is not the best dry food on the market by a long way(of course whats good for one dog may not suit another) but the ingredients of NDFG shown below are not very good...meat content is low and Dogs do not need rice or Oats

All in One Adult Salmon

Fresh Scottish Salmon (min 24%), Whole Brown rice (min 24%), Whole Oats, Dried Scottish Salmon (min 13%), Mixed Vegetables & Herbs (min 9.25%), Barley, Whole Linseed, Refined Chicken Oil, Brewers Yeast, Sugar Beet, Seaweed
Typical Analysis - Protein 20%, Oil 8.5%, Fibre 3%, Ash 5%

So you're telling me that you really think that 37% fish content is low?!?! On their Lamb, it's 44%. Now, i think you'll find that in the mix of things, that's pretty damned good ( yes, there are a few with slightly higher, but then they don't have the full balance of ingredients which a healthy dog needs......& you'll find many many more with much less & poorer ingredients). Do your research on canine nutrition & comparable products first, then come back & make your sweeping statements.

I agree on a few points, no, it's not THE best dog food ingredients wise. And no, dogs don't NEED rice or oats.

But I'd be very grateful if you point us both in the direction of another food, with a higher meat content, grain free, that has all natural ingredients? No synthetic vitamins, minerals etc, All natural.

It was not meant to be a sweeping statement(unlike you stating that NDFC is the best kibble when clearly it is not).... i was just stating that it is not the best dry food out there

I feed Orijen regional red (70 meat 30 % fruit and veg 0 grain(it has the full range of ingredients needed unlike NDFC).dogs do not need rice\oats fillers may i suggest you do research into canine nutrition)

I have done my research into canine nutrition and feed my dog origen regional red after much research decided this is the best dry food(costly though)

Hi Lyceum

Orijen seems to match the above criterea(although im sure someone will point out a controversial ingredient ..... the ingredent\vitamin list is shown below... it clearly knocks NDFG kibble into a cocked hat

ORIJEN REGIONAL RED is made with a Biologically Appropriate ingredient ratio (70/30/0) of 70% meat, 30% fruit and vegetables (and 0% grain).

ORIJEN fresh, never-frozen red meats are raised within our region and delivered to us daily by people we know and trust. Wild boar, lamb, bison and heritage pork are all raised 'free-range' on a natural diet free of growth hormones and antibiotics.

Fresh fish are caught-wild using sustainable harvesting practices and delivered FRESH (never frozen, no preservatives). Omega-3 (DHA, EPA) is from fresh fish, NOT sunflower, flax or canola oils (ALA) which are ineffective in the body of a dog.

Unequalled in any other dry pet food, ORIJEN REGIONAL RED features 4 fresh red meats to better match the various foods Nature intended dogs to eat. Veterinary selected botanicals soothe, nourish and tone the digestive tract while strengthening the liver.

NGREDIENTS
Fresh deboned wild boar, fresh deboned lamb, lamb meal, russet potato, fresh deboned pork, peas, salmon meal, whitefish meal*, herring meal, fresh deboned bison, fresh whole eggs, potato starch, fresh deboned salmon (a natural source of DHA and EPA), alfalfa, sweet potato, fresh deboned walleye, salmon oil (naturally preserved with vitamin E and citric acid), pea fiber, psyllium, pumpkin, tomatoes, carrots, apples, cranberries, Saskatoon berries, black currants, chicory root, licorice root, angelica root, fenugreek, marigold flowers, sweet fennel, peppermint leaf, chamomile flowers, dandelion, summer savory, rosemary, organic kelp, vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin E, niacin, zinc proteinate, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, vitamin B5, iron proteinate, vitamin B6, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12, selenium, dried Lactobacillus acidophilus product, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product.

Analysis
Modern dogs of all breeds are not only capable of eating the food of their wild ancestors, but actually require it for maximum health. High protein and low carbohydrate, ORIJEN REGIONAL RED replicates the diet your dog would encounter in his natural environment.

Protein from premium red meat ingredients passed 'fit for human consumption', NOT plant proteins like potato or pea isolates, soy or glutens.

Long chain omega-3 (DHA, EPA) from fresh fish, NOT sunflower, flax or canola (ALA omega-3) which is not useable by dogs and cats.

Calcium and phosphorus are moderate, balanced, and of natural source.

Fresh cartilage provides a natural, high source of glucosamine and chondroitin.

Veterinary selected botanicals soothe, nourish and tone the digestive tract while strengthening the liver.

Calories
A BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE CALORIE DISTRIBUTION

There are 3 sources of calories in all dog foods - protein, fat & carbohydrates.

Protein and fat are essential, carbohydrates are not. While dogs thrive on proteins and fats, they require absolutely no carbohydrate in their diet.

Simple carbohydrates cause blood sugar levels to elevate and fluctuate.

When not used for energy, carbohydrates are stored in the body as fat.

Carbohydrates are the leading dietary cause of overweight conditions in dogs.

By providing more calories from protein and fewer calories from carbohydrate, ORIJEN reduces the risk of obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes.

CALORIE CONTENT & DISTRIBUTION
ORIJEN REGIONAL RED has a Metabolizable Energy (ME) of 3990 kcal/kg or 475 kcal per 250ml cup (120g). Calories are distributed to promote peak physical conditioning with 38% from protein, 22% from fruit & vegetables and 40% from fat.

NUTRITIONAL GUARANTEE
ORIJEN REGIONAL RED is formulated to meet nutritional levels established by the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for ALL LIFE STAGES

Feeding
High protein & low carbohydrate, ORIJEN REGIONAL RED mirrors the foods Nature intended dogs eat, and naturally benefits dogs of all breeds and sizes.

PREGNANCY:
Increase food by 10% in week 7, and 20% during weeks 8 and 9.

LACTATION:
Increase food by 50% and feed 3 or 4 times daily.

ORIJEN REGIONAL RED benefits dogs of all breeds and ages. As each dog is unique feeding amounts will vary. Use this chart as an initial guide and adjust feeding amounts accordingly. Feed twice daily and provide fresh clean water at all times.

Remember, maintaining proper body weight contributes to good health and longevity - a healthy dog is lean and athletic.
