Angry Bakers sensitive - discontinued

I am having a real problem because we have a 5yr old Weimaraner who has IBS and the only food he can tolerate and actully like is Bakers sensitive, and we just found out from Purina they have discontinued this product (because of lack of demand)

I just want to know if there are any owners out there who is now worrying like I am as to what to feed our dog now (we are trying to buy up what is left in our local shops)?! I am going to phone Purina again and if I can get some support, I am hoping they may change their minds?!

Previous to finding Bakers sensitive, we have tried many different types of dog food (Arden range, Burns, Hills amongst others), none of them worked (he either doesn't like them or it still upsets his stomach). We can't even feed him boiled chicken breast and rice, that will give him instant stomach problems. he finds it really difficult to gain weight and keep the weight he gains, so it is vital he likes the food.

I am now having to research on vegetarian dog food as we suspect he may be allergic to meat

Any comment / suggestion / support will be much appreciated

Have you tried fish based foods?
There has been a huge increase in the choice of these recently.

Hi Rona

thanks for the suggestion

Purina did suggest Beta Salmon and rice and we have tried other fish product based food in the past, but he doesn't like really like them and it still upsets his stomach (but not as much as meat).

I just can't face having to go through all the traial and error of different kinds of dog food again. and it is just upsetting watching him lose weight, pick his food, have stomach problems when we thought we never have to go through that kind of stress again.

Or orijen? Dascha had a dodgey tummy as well but orijen, fish4dogs, james wellbeloved and nature diet she can tolerate. Perhaps try some of them out.

My old girl is 10 so I have to be careful what I feed her at her age, she's always had a iffy tummy but its got worse so I tried nearly everything until I found out what she could tolerate.

i was going to suggest this too.

perhaps your dog is sensitive to cereals/grains. a lot of dogs are. have you tried any grain free foods?

examples being: fish4dogs, orijen, applaws, arden grange sensitive.

all the foods you have mentioned so far contain cereals. so this might be worth a shot.

Re: Bakers sensitive - discontinued

Wainwrights from PAH do salmon and potato and its excelent for sensitive tums....its the only food 1 of mine can tollerate.
If you do buy a small bag 2kg and it disagrees with your dog...PAH will take it back.

That's so annoying for you. Barking heads do a variety called tlc. You could look them up. My sisters dog who has a sensitive belly had this with no problems

I doubt it as they are a business at the end of the day, in it to make money.

It might be worth searching around the online retailers to see if they have old stock.

A surprising number of dogs seem to be intolerant to chicken.

It is certainly worth considering as others have suggested the many fish based foods available,

Also - it might be worth having a look at my friends experience - her dog has IBD and was very near death's door - but she has found results through a homeopath - I am not for one minute suggesting your dog's situation is in any way similar to hers - but there are lots of tips on the thread on allergy testing etc - and also on the results of using a homeopath.

IBD & weight loss - Help needed
