My dog got wobbley and fell down while playing

My doggy, Jersey, was playing fetch with my parents with he got wobbley and collasped. My mom immediatly called me and told me to come outside with some wet cloths and water bottles. When I got there, he was laying on his side and breething extremely heavily. There was a crowd of neighbours around him pouring water on him and putting a bowl of water near him to cool him down. After a while he got up and layed back down a few times.. He threw up, and then drank his water.

We took him to the vet and they said that he probally got overheated while playing. His heart and all other doggy parts looked great (Said the vet.)

Regardless my mom took him to a groomer this morning, (He is a golden retreiver, by the way) and had him shaved.. We live in Florida and around this time of the year the wheather is extremly brutal.. So I thought that seemed like a good idea.

He loves his blinking-light ball. When he sees it, no amount of heat will stop him from running over and getting it.. And bringing it back... (A hundred times)

I just wanted to post this to see if anyone else has had this happen. Or if they think it sounds suspiscious and may be a deeper health problem that the vet didn't look for.

Thanks.

Here's two pictures of him:

Sounds like heat stroke to me, it happened to our dog years ago. sounds like you did all the right things - you should come and live in cold wet england that would solve the problem :-) i would be happy to swap!

Maybe try having play time earlier in the morning or later in evening when it has cooled down a little bit

Yeah we are trying to let him play when it's not as hot; also we let him jump in the pool before and/or after he plays.

And also, I would love to move to Europe!.. But I'm only 15

No way should you move here, oh yes we all have pools in our back gardens only ours are muddy puddles.

If you get a chance to travel, come over and see for yourself, it rains most of the time and then later in the year it snows. Summer is a few days here and there.

Seriously now, my dog flopped on the floor last weekend panting and I sponged him down and gave him tepid water to drink. He hadn't collapsed but he was over heated, we weren't playing just come back from a long walk. I usually time it so we are back before there is any strength in the sun, slipped up at the weekend.

Sorry, but the very last thing you should have done is to have your dog shaved. His fur is there as a protection against both heat and cold. Now he has nothing between him and the heat of the sun. You will need to keep him out of direct sunshine or not only will he overheat badly, but he will be vulnerable to sunburn. A dog which has sufered from heat stroke once, is much more likely to do so again so you will need to be incredibly careful.
