Some Suggestions Please!

Hello Folks

Dudley has been getting fed Burns Mini Bites for the past week with us, as that's what the breeder had him on. One of his meals is the Burns mini bites mixed with some raw mince or tripe and the other one is the bites, with some evaporated milk added. Now, I think he's getting bored of the burns bites as he's not eating some of his meals. However, when we feed him the meal with the raw meat included, he's happy and eats that.

Could you please give me some suggestions as to what we could add to his dry good, to make it more appealing please. I read a few moments ago about sardines in oil, thought that was a great idea.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.

When I had my last dog in Scotland, I used to feed him tinned Pedigree meat or Winalot along with some mixer and he loved it, or sometimes dry food with something else tasty mixed with it- never had any problem feeding then! lol

Sal

Re: Some Suggestions Please!

Just had a look at your other post Sally and Dudleys is @ 10 wks - yes? If so he should be on four meals a day. If he is liking the raw tripe etc then IMHO he is telling you what he'd like to be fed
You can give him meals of rice pudding, scrambled egg, sardines in oil, tripe, lambs hearts - you can also give a natural holistic wholebake mixer.
My best bit of advice is to beg steal or borrow the book Give Your Dog A Bone by Dr Ian Billinghurst - he is the raw feeding guru and it explains everything you need to know about feeding your puppy.
Did Dudleys breeders not give you a puppy pack containing notes on exactly what he has had and how many times a day he's been getting fed

Re: Some Suggestions Please!

Hi,
The only thing we add into our dogs food is sardines in sunflower oil. Both are fed burns Adult,we change the flavour every now and then.
Complete food really shouldn't have other food added in as it a balanced diet,by adding in other foods you are upsetting this.
Another factor to consider is by chopping and changing and adding other foods in you can turn your dog into a picky fussy eater.

We add things as a treat for our two occassionaly and we add things like raw minced fish, sardines, vegtables like raw carrotts, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage (sometimes cooked if any left over from cooking, hence never cooking with salt) scrambled egg, cheese, natural yoghurt.

Hi Jo

Yes, we got a puppy pack with the food and his feeding routine. He is on 4 meals a day, he'll be 10 weeks on Thursday.

Breakfast he has 14oz of raw minced tripe.

Lunch - he has 1 cup of soaked Burns mini butes with half tin of evaporated milk or Natural Bio Yoghurt.

Tea Time he has the same as breakfast without the Burns.

Supper Time - he has rice pudding and scrambled egg.

However, he's not eating much of the Burns and I don't want to be feeding him completely on raw.

Re: Some Suggestions Please!

Our breeder said if our pup gets bored with the dry (ours hasn't yet cos she is a willy hog lol) try mixing a little pilchard in tomato sauce.

Re: Some Suggestions Please!

Hi Sally
Sorry, from your post it just read as if he was on 2 meals a day. I dont really know what to suggest as really complete feeds shouldnt have much added to them - as Sally said it can make for a picky eater.
I've never had a breed larger than a Rott but at 10 weeks 2 lb of raw meat a day sounds a lot - I'd give your breeder a wee ring and ask them what they think is the best way forward - they'll be the most knowledgable about the breed. You need to get the balance right where he is growing nice and steady and not packing on too much weight on those young joints
