Vet Medicine Bills
Hi, I have a 10yr old long haired German shepherd who I took to the vets approx 6 months ago due to coughing. He was diagnosed with a 'dodgy' heart and was put on a cocktail of drugs to control. The cost of these was £200 - £250 per month. I was told he was a ticking time bomb and he wasn't even allowed to go for any walks, which he used to love. Since then I've forked out over £1500 and he's still going strong! Don't get me wrong i love him to bits and couldn't be happier, but my gripe is the cost. However last week whilst re-stocking my vets balls up and didn't have 1 of the tablets in stock (even though I'd given them 3 days notice), so 'reluctantly' wrote a prescription which I took to the local pharmacy and discovered the 'real' cost.
![]() I then went on-line and discovered I could save over £120 each month by obtaining a prescription and buying over the net. I wanted to firstly warn others who may not know & secondly ask if I had any chance of claiming any money back? |

Re: Vet Medicine Bills
Yes it is Frusemide (2 x 40mg twice day) & Fortekor (1/5 x 20mg once a day) plus
Vetmedin (2 x 5.0mg twice a day), Dilatiem (3/4 x 60mg 3 times a day) and Moduretic (1 x 50mg every other day) The Vetmedin & Fortekor I know are for dogs only and therefore I can't get from a pharmacy unlike the others which are common in the treatment of humans, but when I asked for a prescription for these also I was told they would price match anyone on the internet if I produced a print out! How about the extra money they've been taking for the last 6 months then??? Unbelievable, you don't get it unless you ask for it. So I just wanted to let everyone else know you don't have to pay the vets extortionate demands, get a prescription and shop about, I know there's a law coming out in October stating they can start charging for prescriptions (they can't charge at the moment) but it should only be £15 max which you should be able to recoup on the savings you'll make. |

Re: Vet Medicine Bills
there are websites for animal medicine like vet meds, where if you send a copy of your perscription(your vet is obliged to do this)you can buy the meds cut cost from them direct
my dog is on frusimide and fortekor but she only weighs 2.25 lbs so doesnt cost hardly anything. |
