Sick Doggie :(

Greetings,

I have a male beagle that is about 5 years old. He has not had his appetite for the last three days and occasionally he hacks up but nothing comes out (several times a day). He is still active in that he is not lethargic or anything, just not as active as normal. I have been successful in feeding him small amounts of cat food which he normally loves, and small amounts of ham, but he does not eat these with great vigor like he use to. NOTE: I do not feed him these things normally of course; I was just trying anything to get him to have at least a little something in his stomach. His nose is a bit dry, and his gums are wet.
When I put his normal food down, he goes to the opposite side of the room like there was something wrong with the food or something. This is the same food he has been eating for well over a year. I need to mention that we also have a female beagle who is 5 years old, and she is eating the same food without any signs of ill behavior.

Thank You

Re: Sick Doggie :(

Hi,sorry your dog isnt well.Has he been wormed recently? Is there any chance he could have something stuck in his mouth? could he have a tooth ache?
Can you think of anything that happened prior to this that may have upset him at all?
Is he having normal bowel movement?
Sorry, lots of questions! just trying to get a better picture

Re: Sick Doggie :(

yeah, could be something like a pain in the mouth thats causing him to not want to eat. a quick trip to the vet might be an idea

let us know how he is.

Thank you everyone for your responses.

I am not ruling out worms and I will look into this further, however I live in a region which is desert and arid and there is not much talk or advertisements for worms or de-worm products. I use to live in a hot and humid region, and I always saw advertisements on television, the supermarket and the vet for these type of products.

I will be checking his mouth for any evidence of something.

He has had a bowel movement, however less than normal as can be expected.

The only event that has happened recently is that my brother moved in with his dog, however that happened over a month and a half ago, our dog just started these symptoms three days ago.

We are searching for a vet to take him into if the situation does not get any better in one more day.

I will post any resolutions that come of this

Re: Sick Doggie :(

I just got back from the vet. He thinks Bigsbe may have Valley Fever. I have heard of this, it is quite common for people where I live, I however never heard of aminals catching it. He also took a couple samples of blood to check other things and prescribed antibiotics in case it is not valley fever.

What is Valley Fever?
Valley Fever is a lung infection. A fungus becomes airborne when dust around construction areas and agricultural areas is transported by the wind. When spores are inhaled, Valley Fever can result. The medical name for Valley Fever is coccidioidomycosis.

Where is Valley Fever found?
It is found mostly in the Southwestern U.S. where temperatures are high and the soils are dry.

I will know in a couple days after the blood work results come back. I will post when that happens.
