The rest o fmy post was not a lecture, but intended to be a helpful response to the OP, as she asked what human foods dogs could eat and mentioned what had they used to do in the old days when they didnt have all this new fangled info
I am not touchy at all thank you.

I just wish I had half of your knowledge - I could write the next edition of the encyclopedia (only joking) lol no seriously you really do seem to have a wealth of information on all nature of things. Do you read a lot or is it from personal experience?

Re: Human Food For Our Dogs! What if any?.....

I am really interested in the raw food, I havent yet changed my pup onto it (we have dabbled a bit with some raw foods) - I have just got a DDB as well so really nervous about bloat...

Couple of questions -

WHat age can you start the Raw food diet?
How do you get the vegetables into them - to be fair i havent tried but cant imagine Oscar eating raw veggies!!

Thanks
Becky

Hi Rebecca,

Puppies can successfully be fed chicken wings from weaning. If they have a bit of trouble with crunching the bones at first, then just mash or mince initially.

I have witnessed a 5 week old litter of Chihuahuas devouring chicken wings with no problem

Some dogs take to raw pulped veggies straight away, others need to have them introduced slowly mixed in with their regular dry food over 4/5 days. Starting off with 80% dry food - 20% veggies and gradually increasing the veggies and decreasing the dry food.

Every dog is different when it comes to metabolism, so if the stools are not firm then feed more raw meaty bones/less veggies, and if the stools are too firm then more veggies/less raw meaty bones.

And be patient, it takes about a month to find the right balance for your dog.

If you're really interested then this is a great book:

Give Your Dog a Bone - By Ian Billinghurst

Hope this helps

Angela

As above, dogs can be weaned on raw meat and bones.

Two of my dogs won't eat raw veggies on their own, the best way to feed raw veg is to pulp/blend it anyway so I just mix it in with their meat.
