Flakey skin and fur loss

I know this is wrong to do so many times but we bath her about once every week because whilst she was in the dogs home she did have the mange but that cleared and left her with flakey dry skin all the time so we have to brush her twice a day then bath her once.
Hvae you got any reccomendations on how to keep her hair loss down and her flakey skin because we have to hovver the house up about 6 tmies each day
Many thanks

Re: Flakey skin and fur loss

i just read that fish oil or evening primrose is good for flaky skin, add one of them to ur dogs foods, its meant to be really good.
then again it could be somethin to do wiv ur dogs diet aswell so look into that. wat are u feeding her on?? maybe some of the others can then tell u wats best for ur dog.
actually raw feeding is best for ur dog, with the natural diet u will deffo see a change in her skin condition and overal appearance.

Re: Flakey skin and fur loss

Fish oil is good as recommended in the post above.I give my two sardines in sunflower oil once or twice week mixed in with their complete food.
Bathing once a day could be adding to the dry flaky skin,as you are stripping the coat of it's natural oils.
If you need to bath your dog I would say once a week at the most.
What shampoo are you using?

Re: Flakey skin and fur loss

Try to stop the bathing -that is probably the main culprit. Dogs have natural oils that keep their skin and hair nice but each time they are bathed the oils are stripped.

Then have a lot at her diet - try Burns.

Malaseb is okay but I would not use it more than once a week and even less would be better as its quite abrasive
