Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

All the foods I use are complete dried food. All the ones I have mentioned are. Many people on here use a BARF diet - Bone And Raw Food. Research shows it is much better for dogs as they are being fed what nature intended. I do believe it to be best, but it is the extra work/expense I would struggle with, as most people also add recommended vitamins in order to keep the dog's diet balanced.

Burns is already gluten free - so she is already on a gluten free diet. It's very similar, but superior, to JWB, I've been led to believe.

Thankyou for all your suggestions so far xx

Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

We had a similar problem with Daisy when she was a pup for months she had the runs it eventually cleared up on Royal canin hypoallergenic food which we fed for about 5 weeks , she had not been given a good start as her breeder thought it was ok to feed Bakers ( full of bad things ) and cat food !!!!!!!! so at the end of all the tests ect all it came down to was putting her on the hypoallegenic food which soya is the protien source we then gradually moved her onto the Royal canin labrador junior food , she thrived on it untill i descided to research Barf feeding and went for it . At this time we had addopted another lab Jessie she was out of condition and over weight Barf has allowed me to feed what they should eat with no additives no wheet or rice or preservatives which can eventually cause liver and kidnet problems .
Barf feeding costs me about £35 for about 7 weeks for 2 adult labs , the meat i order is from a place called Landywoods , it comes pre frozen in 1lb portions you can get loads of different things but order chicken minced with the bone in it , lamb minced with the bone , and kidneys whole i just cut them up once defrosted , all i have to do is remember to take the food out of the freezer lol . So this morning i took out of the freezer 1 bag of chicken , and 1 bag of lamb they have defrosted now so ive halved each portion into containers and they are now in the fridge ready for tomorrow each dog has 1 bag each per day split into 2 feeds . Once a week i spend 20 mins blending raw veg usually whats left over from last weeks shopping but i do buy economy carrots and cabbage ect i really enjoy preparing thier food it makes me happy to know they are only having exactly what i know about , Into the veg pulp you can add cod liver oil sunflower seeds ect if its alredy in the veg you dont need to remember to add these thing during the week , they also might have a raw egg about 3 times a week , and they get veg defrosted but not cooked every night i bag they veg into portions and take out of the freezer in the mornig , I know this may sound a lot but honestly i must spend 5 mins a day getting food ready its not hard as long as your organised .

There is no more work or expense involved in feeding raw instead of commercial food. There's also no need to feed any supplements.

Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------this was one of my first post hope this can help you

if any body is suffering with this nasy bug i would like to share my experience with you !

two years ago we brought home a new pup he had been fine for the first 10days then he became very ill every thing he ate went straight through him the vet could not give me treatment untill they had lab results back this period seemed endless the poor pup was getting weaker every day
Camplylobacter was the result my vet seems to be dealing with this as a every day problem very common in our town
the only treatment was antibiotics this was fine just great to get something to help the poor pup it was a seven day course he looked better every day
fantastic! but after he came of his medicine 10 days latter it returned
so we started more antibiotics but this time all my animals were treated
as recommened by my vet
but every time my pup had been off the medicine for ten days he was very ill
the only solution was to treat him again more antibiotics

Re: Campylobacter

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

this continuied for the next 9 months antibiotics on repeat percription seemed to be the only answer with conventional medicine
at my wits end i started to look on line for a answer
i found a report from america
there was a food poising to many people at a firms dinner
the only people not to have become ill were the ones eating garlic bread as a starter
so at this stage any thing was worth a try
i started giving my dogs garlic tabs
im so happy as this was the last time my dog was ill & never used antibiotics since if any one is suffering the same problem give it a try you have nothing to loose please contact me if you get the same results

Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

I came back from Kenya with Campylobacter food poisoning - I felt bloody awful so I really feel sorry for your puppy (((HUGS)))

Please consider Raw feeding for your pup - it costs me @ £8.00 per week to feed two adult male Rottweilers - much, much, MUCH!!! cheaper than if I was feeding a complete - and they are both thriving off it

Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

id love to change Toff over to a BARF diet , I know its healthier for him , but im terrified of giving him the wrong thing or maybe not enough food for the day

I wish I knew someone who lived in the village who fed their dogs this way so I could go round and see how its done ... all the owners I ask on the field feed tinned or dried to their dogs

Re: Help... PLEASE!!!

It's easy to feed BARF - if you do a search on here there have been quite a few topics on it - the main things is dont get hung up on it and as for feeding the right amount - your dog tells you that - if he looks porky, cut him down - if he looks a bit ribby, up it a bit
