We love a challenge!

To request samples simply call us free on 0800 8488049. We are working on a link for our homepage but I'm afraid that's not quite ready yet.

I'm glad you've raised the cereals question as they have been getting a very bad rap of late. Our foods are not cereal free. We have always used a mix of whole brown rice, oats and barley and we have never found them to cause problems - in fact, as far as we're concerned, good quality, whole grains cooked correctly can not only be well digested by dogs but can provide a whole range of valuable nutrients.

Of course, there are certain cereals like wheat and possibly maize that should be avoided but I think it's important not to tar all cereals with the same brush.

Thanks, I'll call for some samples.

I've just started my dogs on Orijen and they're doing great so far. But per bag this seems to work out cheaper, because it's 15kg back but has roughly the same feeding amounts outlined as Orijen but is the same price. I'll have to give it some thought and see what others say as obviously don't want to mess their diets around any more than I have to. And I'm not really sure I want them back on a food with cereals in now they're on a cereal free diet.

Can you tell us what nutrients please, I'm another one that feeds Orijen and I do that because it's grain free.

The ingredients are listed on the website:

Natural Dog Food Adult Food Ingredients

Natural Dog Food - Senior Light Ingredients

I've been using this food for Dillon since he was about 4 or 5 months old, he has never had any digestion or eating problems (he's now 18 months old) that I hear about from other dog owners.

Hi Kinski,
From our experience, good quality whole grains like brown rice, oats and barley (provided they are prepared correctly and aren't fed in excess) are far more than the simple filler they have recently been portrayed as. All three are packed with B vitamins, numerous trace elements like manganese, phosphorous and selenium and of course dietary fibre - both soluble and insoluble. Brown rice is also a good source of essential fatty acids.

Re: Special offer from The Natural Dog Food Company!

Sounds a good food from first look...shame I won't be able to try it...

Maggie has a grain allergy which causes terrible itchy skin and we have got her back to normal over the last 6 weeks...after a long process of elimination we have worked out rice (both brown & white) and barley affect her...I haven't wanted to trial her with anything else, poor little mite, so to be on the safe side we went grain-free (with Orijen) at the end Nov/beginning Dec and luckily this has worked for her.

I know you said you have always used these cereals and never found them to be a problem, but I was told that these particular allergens are quite common for dogs to have allergies to...although Barley & white rice more so than brown rice...

I think perhaps the cereals you use may possibly be less likely to trigger a food intolerance than some cereals - hence your mention of digestibility? But this is different from a proper food allergy...

But as I said, it does sound a good food for those who can feed cereals...

Well spotted both of you! That particular link doesn't work because we are yet to get our first Hertfordshire stockist. If of course you can suggest any suitable outlets I'd be delighted to get in touch with them.

This special offer is only available direct but in general we do try to direct our customers to our excellent community of stockists - as long as you've got one near by at least!
