newfie 19 months, good home only b71
Hiya all, I am new to this site and so hopefully I am doing this rite, I live in the West Midlands, in West Bromwich, I have got a 19 month old complete newfie that I sadly need to rehome, I am to have a hip replacement and so poor old yogi as he is so big and strong, I cant handle him anymore, he doesnt have any papers as he was a rescue dog originally and I got him from the owner as she couldnt be with him all the time as she was working away a lot, he is black with a white bib, all the typical manorisms of a newfie, but he is a big boy, very boystrous at the moment too, I was told to have him neutered but wasnt sure what to do for the best, but decided that as I wouldnt be able to take him his much loved walks anymore the kindest thing for yogi was to rehome him, If anyone is interested and is aware of the temperament of the breed contact me please, laineygreen66@yahoo.co.uk

Re: newfie 19 months, good home only b71
Yogi, my newfie, who is a character and a half lol, as he is complete, i am wondering if neutering will calm him down, as he was so cute, i think it was my fault that he has got away with murder lol, when i take him trainging he does evertything that is asked of him so proudly too lol and then i get him in the car, and its just me and him lol oooooooo the change lolol, if yogi wants it yogi has it, but, i was giving him a brush yesterday as he had jumped in the pool rolled in god knows what so thought i will tidy him a bit, normally he loves being brushed but he did snap at me, scared me a little as he has never done this before, he will play and mouth your arm or something like that but never meant to snap...and as he is so big he comes well above my waist and Im not small at all, it did scare me, and think he knew this and got a bit more bolshy with it....sooooo does anyone think that neutering him will take his mood swings from him....i wanted to keep him complete for as long as i could as i didnt know what to do for the best....(cringe at the thought of someone messing about with him lol) he is currently gnawing away quite happily at my foot lol...but no pressure on his jaw, which makes me think something is not quite rite with him snapping the way he did....any info would be appriciated...that way when i do have me op he is a comfort although when he is asleep the snooring omg lololol

I think you should consider reliquishing him over to rescue as they do need to be with breed experienced people.

Re: newfie 19 months, good home only b71
morning nikki, well i spoke to a lovely lady yesterday that breeds newfies, and she was absolutely fantastic, apparently i am not doing owt wrong with him, he is just wanting a woman, and the snap was to tell me that he was not happy with the brushing. apparently using a blower on them to clean them etc is the best thing as they dont take kindly to being brushed...I didnt know that as when i took him to be groomed, they were dragging a brush through him although he didnt look comfortable he didnt take a snap...so a blower it is for him now...she said not to neuter him, it wouldnt make too much of a difference, and as she is a breeder, if I wanted to she would take him off my hands for fostering while i get better, some of the rescues are not reputable either apparently, she did give me the list too, so thank you for that, and a couple she highlighted that tend to just rehome them for the donation, knowing that they will be back soon after, i think this is disgraceful, I know one member thought it wasnt fare that yogi would be rehomed for a third time, but the lady i had him off was going to have him put to sleep, think the rehoming is far more better for him than that, that is why i took him on, and if i can get help with the fostering while i have my hips done then i get to gett him home again, it isnt just as simple as putting up with things when you have to think what is best for your loved pet, I didnt think it would be fare on him having to stay in while i couldnt walk for 6 weeks, that would be sad....lainey

Re: newfie 19 months, good home only b71
Hi laney , i thought it sad that it would be his 3rd home yes , but only because its never giving him the chance to settle and be trained , I know you said you were taking him training and thats great , I just thought you could look at other options that maybe you had,nt thought of first before letting him go , i agree that he should be with someone who knows the breed , but whats to say that , that someone couldnt be you people have to start somewhere , As far a neautering ive got 2 bitches and were having ours spade in the next month not for behaviour issues , but for long term health benefits , as unless you were going to breed him he has no need for them lol and this prevents testicular cancer and other issues . I hope you do whats best for you and him and that it all works out ok
Andrea

hiya andrea
i am booking him for neutering, I am never going to breed him, there are enough puppies and dogs out there that need homes, and I really dont want to have him go to someone that is just going to breed and make money off him, I am going to go to another trainer, and my friend has recommended a behaviourist to come look at him at home as he is really different at training, as for the snap he gave me, well that was put down to me making him sore, and that they dont like being brushed, i really didnt know this at all, so he is quite happy at the moment snoring his head off....the lady i spoke to said that she would foster him while i recouped....so that is fantastic.......he is such a great big baby and i know that its his teenage years lol and we all know what teenagers are lolol.....he was fine when i had my bypass surgery, he didnt jump ettc so he knew i was hurting, so think he will b ok with my hip replacement lol....crikey i sound like a rite bag of poo lolol.......anyways I am going to try my hardest with him to get him through his terror times, and with a lot of luck he will b fine for my op,, just his walking that was scaring me really but if this lady does come thru for me, everything should be ok here......thanks everyrone for all your help.....and i will keep you all informed, with the op for yogi when he will go in a boy and return rather angry i pressume lolol........ |
