Re: Springer mix puppy

This does not sound like a good option by any means.

They have no experience, this is not a working environment and they have an 18 month old.

And the husband isn't keen on a dog that sheds as he has asthma.

I really think this is a recipe for disaster and think you should talk to piggybaker.

You said this dog NEEDS to work and sending him off to a family with no experience & a young child is not the best thing. The questions she asks all suggest they are looking for "the perfect puppy" toilet trained, good with children etc not taking on a high maintenence dog like bear.

Has Bear been housed with young children so far? I did not think this was the case.

I really am not trying to be difficult but i have young children and grew up with springers and i think you should politely decline these people.

This dog needs a committed and experienced home who have lots of spare time to ensure he fulfills his potential and doesn't end up in rescue.

Saying that he does love the cat really so I am sure once he has fallen in love with the dog he will forgive the hairs and I have tried to explain to him that even he sheds...
If the hubby is that adament to have a low shedding dog what on earth are they doing looking at a springer X malamute? I have seen this time and time again, she wants the cute puppy and so is kidding herself that once the dog gets settled the husband will be fine with the shedding. Can't see that happening myself, the poor thing will get settled then pushed onto the next owner...

Nice woman but just don't think this dog is for her, I'd keep looking if I were you - you said yourself theres no rush.

Re: Springer mix puppy

I know you are keen for him to go to a good home, and she has painted a rosey picture with a family environment, daily walks on fields etc... but you need to look past all that. Glad you are going to keep looking someone will come along.

Have you contacted the rescue that was going to help you rehome these pups initially, they may have potential owners on a puppy waiting list? You will know that they have been properly vetted then.

No offense to my previous rescue but they don't do home checks at all and they are boarding kennels who take in strays. I met a malamute breeder today and he said maybe try contacting Malamute rescue as they might know of someone who'd like a young mal even if it's a mix

It is a shame everything did sound nice but bear will be a handful, he already is for me.

OH ps his previous home had small children in it so that would be no problem, he's VERY well socialized

Would definately get some help from breed rescue.

It's not so much the worry about him with children it's just that people with young children just may not have the time to give bear what he needs if he is that high energy. If he is a handful and they have no experience it really isn't the right dog for them.

What about piggybakers offer??

it's good offer although I would like him evaluated by the police really so I know he is what they'd be after rather than him be passed about again. I shall see and think more about it, heck I could hold him till he was 6 months.
