Re: Springer mix puppy
[QUOTE=piggybaker;522582]Not meaning to step on toes but are you sure the police won't take him??? We have rehomed a dog to them before at just 6 mths she was a cocker.
My hubby is a copper and we had a long conversation about this little fella this morning, about holding him to go into the police if he is a good working dog! Is he search and toy enorentated or is he more people, The police dog trials are coming up at Leeds Castle (I live in the village) soon, and we are part of it, It could be the perfect op for him, Have you tried Kent police??? This sounds like a GREAT plan!!!!! Hope you can work something out between you |

Re: Springer mix puppy
Guys please this is not more so my decision this is my mother's and I never mentioned once keeping the other puppy (I even checked old threads), I said I would take him back not keep him.
I have not contacted Kent police, I would not be able to get out that far unless someone was willing to come get him I am in Devon. It sounds fantastic and he's slightly toy orientated but he's more food orientated but still has a drive to work for it and he's often finding things we hiding from socks, toys to treats and he finds them all the time. He would likely be a good gundog but I think a rather large springer mix would not be the best of sight and would easily be spotted, so no I don't expect him as a gundog. I will try and contact my local police, the website said they take 8-18 months old dogs but maybe if I write them a letter, (no phone number provided) they might be interested. I would keep Bear if I could but we should have never kept him, he belongs to my mum not me and this is her decision, i've just had to accept I can't keep him and he's not suited for my mum.

Re: Springer mix puppy
Just another thing we are in no hurry for him to go to his new home. We have no problems with him what so ever except when he winds his other up
but when i leave next year his walks will be small because my mum can not do long walking due to hip problems and work.I currently am the one who walks him the most and he's almost become my dog because I also feed him and train him, but there is no way i can afford 3 dogs or transport 3 dogs to america, two is hard enough. He's a fantastic little puppy how loves everyone and everything although he's not a dog for cuddles, he'd rather be doing something like destroying my socks ![]() I feel it is not fair for him and it's going to be worse when I leave next year. Rather than him becoming destructive and harder to home it is better while he's young and ready to learn. Oh and the people who previously owned harry said they could not cope with 3 kids, a puppy and moving home and forgot they was to return him but please let's not make a war out of every thread I post here guys.

Re: Springer mix puppy
If h is a good working dog why not try contacting some of your local field trial clubs, gundog clubs, hearing dogs for the deaf, dogs for diabled, agility clubs, flyball, obedience clubs. The organisers might know of someone caring that would just love to take him on! If they are active members of these clubs too, you have a better chance of ensuring he goes to a "working" home and that he really would achieve his full potential and be a happy healthy dog! Obviously you would need to double check his potential new home like you would any other, but at least you would be targeting the right audience?

Re: Springer mix puppy
I have recived an intresting email and everything sounds good, so it's likley bear might have a home soon;
Hi Daisy, I have never owned a dog or puppy before - I have an older cat and my daughter keeps mice in her room. I also have an auntie who has bred Labradors and is very involved in the lab rescue and a friend who has two dogs who are amazing and she would be on hand for advice. We live in a large house near Harpenden, Herts in plenty of land surrounded by fields and are an active, healthy family who would always take a dog to training classes to socialise them (and us!) and agility classes as a dog needs mental and physical stimulation and I totally appreciate that. We are big walkers anyway so a dog would be wonderful company on our treks. I would insure, chip and regularly vet a dog. I have a 10 year old and a baby who is 18 months so it is important that I know the parents have a good temperament and would ideally like to meet and spend time with the parents before committing myself to their puppy. Raya (the baby) is wonderful with my cat Jerry and loves him to bits, gives him big cuddles etc. He has had to tell her off before and she's had a couple of scratches which she takes very well and she knows now to leave him alone when he eats - that's off limits to her as I believe he should be able to enjoy his food in peace! The only potential problem I can see with Bear which I have since discovered as I have been swatting up on his breeds is that he will shed quite a lot in the summer and my husband is quite adamant that we should have a dog which sheds as little as possible as he is very mildly asthmatic but also just hates the cat hairs so would be equally intolerant of the dogs! Saying that he does love the cat really so I am sure once he has fallen in love with the dog he will forgive the hairs and I have tried to explain to him that even he sheds... I would ideally have liked a younger puppy too as we could have started training - does Bear attend any classes now? Is he toilet trained and has had all his jabs? Is he socialised and used to children? Would it be at all possible for my auntie who lives in Bideford to see him and his parents as she would be a far better judge than I as to his suitability in my household. Megan and I have already fallen in love with him and would have no judgement at all. Hope this answers some of your questions - if you would like a chat then please do not hesitate to call me Yours, Niki
