Re: german shepherd for stud

What is his breeding ? Is he from hip scored parents & grandparents ? I'm a dyed in the wool GSD person, heavily involved in rescue at the moment & we have a lot of these"white"GSDs in at the moment, pity that the breeders are not ethical & taking them back I got my first German Shepherd in 1958 from Ireland & the kennels of Gwen Barrington, who you will know of course. I've not got a GSD at the moment but hope to import one from Germany in 2010 or 2011 |

Re: german shepherd for stud
Well I have to agree with others on this I'm afraid!
For one I wouldn't consider to breed from a dog that isn't the standard colour for that breed and even more important breed from a dog that has had no health tests done especially in a breed that has HD problems. If he is good enough and passed all his health tests you shouldn't need to go looking for a bitch anyway as they will aproach you which is how it is usually done.

Re: german shepherd for stud
I am afraid I have to agree with what has already been said. I owned and exhibited G.S.Ds many years ago. The colour is less important to me, I quite like the whites (though they are not shown) and know they have a good following and there are some dedicated breeders out there breeding whites but they do health check. No one is just getting at you for no reason it is out of genuine concern for the dogs themselves. Why not just have the health checks done and then offer your dog up for stud if the results are ok and also give yourself peace of mind.

Re: german shepherd for stud
hi well it says white on the kc papers. he hasn't been tested as of yet as we haven't had him long. he is booked in with the verts next week and we are going to ask the vet what all this testing is about and have the neccesary tests done. he does come from a proper gsd breeder and his showname is: silver moon dancer. maybe this might help? i have a picture of him on my profile

Re: german shepherd for stud
hi thanks for your nice reply. i never knew about any of these checks before and now that i know about them i will certainley be getting them done. and as you say if they come back fine then i will offer him for stud. but as for the reply before that saying that i shouldn't need to advertise and that people will come to me. well in that case how will people know i have a german shepherd for stud if i don't advertise?

Re: german shepherd for stud
I am pleased to see that you are going to have the tests done. I hope your results come back ok. Don't forget to ask for proof of these tests of any bitch coming to him as it is important that both the sire and the dam are tested

I suggest you look here: BVA/KC Health Schemes - The Kennel Club and here: Health and DNA issues - The Kennel Club The X-rays are taken by your vet (dog must be over 12 months) and eh can take the blood samples for the Haemophilia test. |

For most people the only acceptable form of advertising is to advertise what the dog has to offer the breed by his outstanding type proven in the showring, or outstanding working ability. After all good breeders have the choice of the top dogs in the breed. An unknown unproven dog is unlikely to attract reputable bitch owners, and the litters produced will simply add to the rescue problem, which is the reason for the negative tone of some posts. There are plenty of pups left over in a litter from outstanding parents when the most promising workers or show prospects are chosen to simply be pets, occasionally some of these will be non standard in colour and coat. |
