And for the record I dont prance!!!! I have to agree about the breeding pets topic here - if you are going to breed then why not breed to as close to the breed standard as possible - its there for a reason - a certain breed should LOOK like what it is.......thats the point!
Also keeping dogs in a kennel only and never doing anything with them would not then later prane around a ring - so maybe the majority show people work even harder to make sure our pets are happy at shows!
Next time we are at a show Debbie I will bring the camcorder............ Then i am taking bets as to whether you prance or not

Re: german shepherd for stud

does everybody here love slagging our dogs down? none of you have ver met them or even seen them for that matter. so how do you know that they are not close to the breed standard? they are exactly how they should be for german shepherds. and if you want to show then that's up to you. do your dogs tell you that they like showing? can they speak?

Re: german shepherd for stud

LOL at Jan - go on then - cos with my broken foot I will bet I dont prance PMSL.
Vikki - How do you know your dogs like playing and going out for a walk? Swimming and being given a cuddle??? How do you know they like it? I think you may answer your own question when you answer mine.
I am not slagging your dogs down - I have not assumed anything about your dogs.....just trying to give you advice - you asked for others opinions and that is what you have got.....

Re: german shepherd for stud

You know if your dog doesn't enjoy it as they just don't perform in the ring. We have had a dog that didn't enjoy it so have stopped showing her for her sake.

Re: german shepherd for stud

I have just had my male castrated - he hated the ring - hes my pet - my life - so out of the ring he came and is the king of the house - I dont preassure any of my dogs to go in the ring - I dont think Basi does either - you can see just being there that they love it.......they want to do it.....some dogs thrive on it....just like some do with working trails, obedience etc...they get a kick out of it...

You do realise that he cannot be hip scored until he is 12 months old

Re: german shepherd for stud

but to me showing is for self gratification because if your dog wins you get the ego boost. what oes the dog get? a treat. i know our dogs love cudlles and walks for the simple reason that when we cuddle them they wag their tails and they also come to us for cuddles. they also get very excited when we get their leads as they know exactly where they are going. i would never make my dogs do anything that they didn't want to
