This is for Soldier who came into the pound and will be with Rochdale Dog Rescue as soon as his 7 days are up.

Soldier is damaging himself in the kennels, I will put the pictures below what he has done. He is very stressed in the kennels and when his 7 days are up, RDR would prefer him to go into a foster home than into boarding kennels.

The kennel staff are very good, they are taking him out of the kennel as much as they can, their breaks and lunch hours and keeping him with them.

No. 1687: SOLDIER
Staffie Cross, male, approximately 1-2 years old. He is tan in colour with white markings, is small in size but has wonderful large prick ears! Poor Soldier has cuts and wounds to his head, neck and face and looks like he has been in the wars, bless him, hence the name. He is a very friendly boy and appears to be good with other dogs!

He will be put to sleep on Wednesday 20th August 2008 if he is not claimed, a rescue space is not secured for him or if funds are not available for emergency boarding.

He is really really soft, he loves people and is quite calm, just happy to be cuddled. Yesterday he had to go to the vets as he has been throwing himself around his kennel, desperately trying to get out.............he hates it

He has ripped his claws off, has cut his eye and has made his gums bleed. he is on painkillers and anti-biotics but he has done the same again this morning

He was as good as gold in the vets and he licks your hands when you clean his wounds

Can anyone help please, Soldier's seven days are up on Wednesday and he needs to go into a home. We can transfer him to boarding kennels but he is doing himself some serious harm in kennels.

Soldier will have full back-up from Rochdale Dog Rescue who will pay vet bills etc.

I really have no space, but I wish you the best of luck in finding a new owner. Poor Soldier!

oh the poor thing, i hope someone can give him a home,, its so sad to see a healthy young dog pts.

omg this really is the otherside of animal rescue the side we dont want to let our minds go to . when there is no home waiting for an animal and no room at the inn so to speak then animals like soldir have to be put to sleep i guess he wouldnt just be stressing himself out with his actions but also the other dogs there ........... i hope he finds a new home before his numbers up .............................. can you go on local radio , local news papers etc .......... i know this isnt just about soldier hundreds of dogs and cats have to be pts as there just isnt the room for them in the shelters

ok rang back can't have him anyway coz i work. Kinda figured that would be the case, but then again he is on "death row" so you would think the fact that i have house cats and would expect him to have the full run off back yard & garage for few days until i know him better wouldn't really matter! but don't worry everyone he wont die tomorrow, thats just his release date not his death date,

Don't get me wrong i am VERY happy he isn't dead but still feel slightly annoyed at the wording regarding his add! mad:

so it was you I was talking to on the phone, as I said, we have no control over it, if you have any issues with the way it is worded contact the Dog Warden because until the pts date, the dogs are in their care.

In the 3 years that RDR has been going, no dog has been pts but it may happen because we can't get anyone to take 2 rotties from the pound at Oswaldtwistle to Lancaster tomorrow morning, their 7 days are up.

I have spent the last 3 days trying to get someone to transport these dogs as well as a foster home for Soldier, been on the internet from 8.30am to 11pm every day working to try and save the dogs.

Rochdale Dog Rescue don't believe in leaving a dog the run of a garage and yard, especially Staffies who are stolen on a regular basis to be used as bait dogs. This is what you wanted to do. This dog has terrible kennel stress were there are people round all day, what do you think being on his one from 9am to 5pm would have done to him?

Soldier has a foster mum now, he is going to the vets in the morning to be vaccinated and neutered then onto his foster mum on Thursday. His foster mum doesn't work so he will have human company which he craves, all day.

We work very hard for these dogs, I am very tired, my eyes are very sore, so sore that I am struggling to type this because I have been trying to save 3 dogs, I don't take kindly to people giving missinformation out about us.

As I said to you, Staffies are people dogs, leaving a Staffy on his own from 9am to 5pm is cruel but you seem to think that is ok, we don't.

If this is the thinking of the members on this board, then it is not the board for me.
