Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

I was a rescue dog and I think the dog that lived here before me was a rescue.

Do bear the rescue centre in mind - I've left a few good friends behind there and just hope they get to go to as nice a home as I have.

Remember, there are always puppies that go through the centres on a regular basis for a whole host of reasons.

my 2 springers are both rescue dogs as was my last springer. we used to have springers from pups but i started to work with our local spinger rescue so i decieded they need a good home so thats why i've had rescue dogs.

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

if we all made the sensible descsion to only take rescue dogs in unless we were showing then a lot of the puppey farms would cease to exist.

have had 2 show dogs first from breeder second we bred from mum. And two rescues once the show bug wore off and i found that the important bit was life with the dog not bits of ribbon on the wall. (thou the ribbons were nice too )

it just needs the public to understand the difference between a £300 puppy farm animal and a full on top line top breeder animal at £700 plus.

the puupey farm animal is never going to show anyway so why not go down and find a rescue example of the breed you love.

Every breed has there own specific breed rescue so no need ever to keep these money farmers in bussiness.

or just go down to the pound and save a dog from being PTS

all in my humble

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

But sadly, puppy farmers and BYB's are willing to sell pups to anyone witht he cash, pretty much no questions asked. So those who are working full time or not suitable to have a dog, and would therefore be turned down by good breeders or rescue can still get a dog.

I haven't had a rescue dog so far, as I breed, show and have children, none of which are condusive to having a rescue of unknown history. I would consider a rescue, but have to be aware that as mine is a alrge breed, and I would prefer a rescue of the same breed (Goldens) a rescue would be taking up a 'place' in the house for a show dog. If I had a smaller, cheaper to keep breed, then I would happily consider rescues to keep alongside my 'own' dogs.

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

I also show, so four of mine are puppies from established show kennels and one I've bred myself. We have had rescued dogs and cats in the past - our last was a fox-hound who absolutely hated men, but she eventually grew to trust them again.

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

I found my lovely boy at Foal Farm in Kent - the most wonderful rescue - the people there are mostly volunteers and fantastic.

Please please consider a rescue dog - there are so many dogs out there that need a loving home so badly

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

I got Sid from a rescue centre when he was a 9 wk puppy so don't really consider him a real rescue as I am sure there would of been lots of other takers if I hadn't got there first!

We got Jess from a breeder, I would quite happily go down the rescue route again but they can make it so difficult when you have children - I only they would consider each case individually instead of having such rigid guidelines!

Re: Do you have rescues or puppies

Both my dogs were bought from a breeder who bred KC rough coated collies for showing and also owned a few small mixed breeds that she bred for interest -(ie different mixes different looks etc). (She also bred very responsibly none of her bitches were bred every year and she always chose a dog that was smaller than the bitch to avoid any problems).
We would of loved a rescue but didn't qualify with any of our local centers as I work 3 days a week, my husband works away and although my kids are older I have a steady steam of kids from 0 - 18 coming through my house on a regular basis.
