Re: Advice for Potential New Owner

All dogs are individuals and you can't really judge one dog of a certain breed just because another behaves in a certain way... for example, you work full time so the dog would be left alone for long periods of time. My two adult boys are total opposites when left alone. The older one is quite happy to be left as long as he's got his bed and food / water, whereas the younger one will make a horrible noise that would have you convinced he's being strangled if he's left alone I should point out that the younger one was a lot older when I had him so that could be part of the reason he's like he is.

If you do go for an older pup, make sure he/she's ok on their own before committing yourself

What's wrong with Staffs??
Pugs have some health issues. My vets even said they wouldn't recommend them to someone.
I have a Chug (pug/chihuahua) though =)

Re: Advice for Potential New Owner

Nothing is wrong with staffs but I just dont think they are right for us. Staffs are quite big compared to the type of dog I would prefer and they can be quite strong. I am only 4"10 and would struggle to control a staff should it decide to pull on the lead! Plus I'm not sure how well they cope being left alone as they can be quite destructive. That said there is no reason why I would discount a staff should the right one turn up in a local rescue. I have nothing against them as a breed but just dont think they are right for our situation.

Has anyone else got any useful advice they could bring to the table?

Does anyone know much about miniature dachshunds? A friend of mine has suggested that they might be a good breed for us but I haven't managed to find much info on them

The only thing that I can think of that is negative is that they can be quite vocal, other than that they are lovely dogs.
My aunt had a couple
