Hi, we are going to be getting a puppy in the fall, and are trying to decide between a Samoyed and a Golden Retriever. The dog will be a family dog, with us having two kids (ages 9 and 6), and two cats. The Golden Retriever is so popular and a great family dog, but the Samoyed is not mentioned much and is rumored to be as good as a Golden in terms of personality, behavior, etc. I would love any advice on any differences (besides shedding!!) between the two that we should further consider...

my parent had a samoyed when i was little and she was a lovely girl always friendly and they had no problems.
i think both breeds are nice family dogs.

I have grown up with golden retrievers and have groomed samoyeds in the parlour and quite honestly they are worlds apart

goldens are easy maintenance - sams are not the coat takes alot of looking after

goldens are laid back - the sams I had in for grooming were noisy and couldnt do anything without barking about it

I love the sammies BUT I would never want to own one

I have owned Samms - their coat is a nightmare - keeping it clean and grooming are a right royal pain in the bum - they can be yappy too.....
