Our boy, Dougall, licks carpets and his bed constantly. He will also lick the couch. He will get up and there will be this big wet stain from where he was licking. 5 minutes, okay, but he will do it forever. He never used to do it? He is a 13 border/roti cross who is normal otherwise. Any advice as to why he would be doing this? Thank you

How strange, my greyhounds do this too! Do you have a leather sofa? Mine seem to LOVE anything leather, and they just lick and lick. I don't know why they do it, so I will be interested to hear some responses too.

My nan used to have a cocker spaniel and he would sit and lick my feet for ages, my feet turned white LOL

It is material he is licking. Feet okay, but material, yuk. Even if you ask him to stop, he doesn't. He is not a licker in any other way. He will kiss you on the lips, but has never licked anyone ever??? And, he has only done it in the last year or so. I know, weird...

My male springer is the same always licking the carpet also peoples clothes but never takes dirty washing out of basket to lick. he will also lick your feet & legs.

I knew a staffy that got into this habit. It was started by a stressful situation that the owners did not pick up on, then the licking became a comfort habit. They ignored it until it coughed up a fur ball from the new carpet!
