Getting rid of doggy smells?

At the moment our Labrador's home is in the outhouses attached to the house while we get him house trained and learning the ropes like going to the toilet outside and not jumping up at everyone and everything. At the moment when we're at work he's trying to be as good as possible by going to the back door and doing his business but the minute you walk into the house the smell hits you and it isn't very pleasant even when you clean up his mess the smell remains. Can anyone make any suggestions as what to clean up with (obviously I want it to be pet friendly) Also is there anything that we can use aswell a detergent to eliminate the smell not just cover it up badly?

Any help appreciated?

Nikkei

Re: Getting rid of doggy smells?

To neutralise urine i still swear by diluted vinegar...

One of my first ever rescues was a nightmare to housetrain and i was advised then to add some vinegar to the water when cleaning up to stop her going back to the same place and it really worked....downside is if you make it too strong your house ends up smellin like a chip shop instead.

Re: Getting rid of doggy smells?

Diluted biological washing powder. You need to give the spot a real hard scrub.

Re: Getting rid of doggy smells?

Apparently you should use white vinegar but I've used malt, lol, like Breagh says don't put loads in the water - been there done that and it made my eyes water. Works with both cats and dogs.

Jeyes Fluid contains the same phenolic compounds as Creosote and will effect dogs as well as cats

Soda water is extremely good at getting rid of whiffy smells & also gets rid of wee stains

Re: Getting rid of doggy smells?

We use pet stain & odor specific products bought from supermarkets or pet shops. They actually smell quite nice and elimiate the odours staight away, and our pup doesn't seem to go to the same place twice.

We're currently using Bob Martin pet stain & odour remover that we just got from the pet aisle in Asda. Has a nice fresh smell to it and my carpet comes up lovely when my pup has an accident
