Dashund - Most Aggressive Dog In The World?!

Cute Dachshund Is Most Aggressive Dog In The World

Even one out of five dachshunds bite a stranger, another dog and one in 12 will attack their owner, experts claim.

When it comes to aggressive dogs, we should not be afraid of pit bulls and rotweillers, because experts have named dachshunds the most aggressive species in the world, Telegraph writes.

They may be small and cute, but veterinarians claim, based on a research, that one in five dachshunds will bite a stranger or another dog, while in 12 will attack their owner.

Known for their body shape, reminiscent of wieners, dachshunds did not use to have a bad reputation, although they were initially bread to hunt badgers in their habitats.

As experts studied the behaviour of thousands and thousands of dogs, dachshunds topped their list of 33 most dangerous and aggressive dogs.

Another small breed, chihuahua, ended up in the second place of hostile dogs, also because of their habit of attacking strangers, family or other dogs.

Third place also went to a tiny breed, Jack Russell terriers. Dr. James Serpell, one of the researchers believes that small breeds are genetically more prone to aggression than large dogs.

Least aggressive dogs are golden retriever, labrador, Siberian husky and greyhound.

It all comes down the serverity of the attacks. Dashound's might be more "aggressive" but will cause less harm then a pitbull and rotweillers.

Even small dogs have been known to severely maul people.

Any dog is capable of launching a severe attack, I have a Niece that was scarred for life & blinded by a JRT.

The article is just pointing out that smaller breeds are more likely to "snap" than a larger one

Re: Dashund - Most Aggressive Dog In The World?!

I certaintly dont agree, my sister has had dachshunds long haired minis for many years and knows a lady breeder who has bred dachshunds for yonks !
They are the sweetest most cuddly of creatures (apart from TTs) yes they bark when the doorbell goes, what dog doesnt !, they are more likely to hide behind my sisters legs than attack anyone in the street. They growl occasionally at bigger dogs, but all small dogs do. and you dont spell it Dashund you spell Dachshund, (daks und)
Most of these stories about agressive dogs come from one person who has experienced one agressive dog of any particular breed. Then they tar them all with the same brush.
But mostly a dogs agressive behaviour stems from the way they are brought up, just like children, bring them up in a sensible proper manner, and any dog can be a loving friendly dog.
From a young age I took my Tibetan Terrier to the school each day to pick up my daughter, now she loves going, loves the attention from all the children and I know I can trust her not to bite them, (not so sure about the postman though)!!!

Re: Dashund - Most Aggressive Dog In The World?!

I have a jr mixed dog - as soft as putty and fab with the kids. At 9 years old will still catch balls and play with them.

But I have read that generally smaller dogs can be more aggressive.

Interesting reading

Talking about little dogs my sis has a tiny 7 yr old jack russel and this was a mail i got from her just now, and they are the kindest people to animals you could wish for.

as she flew at me last night she was asleep i got up to go wash up

before we went to bed if joe had not stopped her i would have had a nasty bite
