Question Help please!!

I've got a 10 wk old Jack Russell puppy, I cant get him to move with his lead on he either sits and whines or hides and whines, he will chase me if i run but I think that's just cause he doesn't want to be alone. He's normally food motivated but won't even take his favourite treat when he's like this or even play with his favourite squeaky cow.

I'm also having problems of him not wanting to be left alone when we go to bed he whines all night long.

Also if anyone can help me to stop him from snapping at us when he play biting as I dont want him biting when he gets older.

We resuced him after he was about to be drowned our neighbour found them and we took him in.

I' am looking for a training classes or a trainer to help but help in the mean would be greatfully appresated

Thanks claire

Re: Help please!!

Its quite normal for pups to be hesitant on the lead. Its a stage that many go through.

Try carrying him to a quite place, away from traffic and encourage him like a mad thing to follow you. Once his confidence picks up he'll be more adventurous.

For bite inhibition have a read of this article The Bite Stops Here by Dr Ian Dunbar

As for the crying, you have to be really firm and ignore it, and praise heavily when he's quiet.

It takes time for them to settle down and get into a routine.

Are all his puppy vaccines done?

No he's got his last vac next mon but I've started earlier to get Benji use to his lead in the house, I've been trying following Cesar Millian's book with the biting but the noise doesn't seem 2 work with him

Ive not read his books, but if it involves poking your dog and making a "shhh" noise, you are more than likely going to illicit an aggressive reaction.

CM's methods are flawed, and i would imagine a bit harsh to be used on a puppy.

If you want a good puppy book try The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey.

Reward based training is far more effective in the long run, not to mention fun for both you and your pup.
