Dogs barking at door to go out...

This may be a silly question to many people, but at what age do dogs start to bark at the back door to go outside. I know it is different for most dogs, but ist here a rough age.

And if my dog is not doing this, is there any way to encourage him to do so?

Re: Dogs barking at door to go out...

Neither of mine bark to go out - nor would I want them to - I want them to bark to alert me of an intruder but not for much else

Mine just go to the door - if I havent noticed then they go on what we call 'The Magic Roundabout' LOL - they just walk in a circle and that lets us know that they need a p - hope this helps

I agree. My older two don't bark to go out, but the youngest barks in the morning to go out and it is very annoying!!! She would probably do it during the day, but I leave the door open where possible, or open it at regular intervals.

The older two just hang around near the back door until I notice and let them out.

Duke doesn't bark to go out but he goes to the door and I follow him. Sometimes he's just letting me know its time for his walk.
