changes in coat

Heidi is now one, has had her first season and been spayed. I was told that both a season and spaying will effect her coat. What changes should I expect?

Westie x Jack Russell. Initially I didnt think she was going to moult but just recently she has but I wouldnt class it as a full moult.

Re: changes in coat

A lot of dogs seem to be moulting at the mo - I think it is the weather...

Dogs with full coats are normally more affected by seasons/spaying I think...but each dog is different. Some seem no different and some you can feel/see a difference.

My MILs rough collie blows her whole coat after a season and then it grows back really thick again.

Some say spaying can alter the coat for the worse, but others I have known who show their dogs said sometimes it can even make them better?!

Re: changes in coat

lucy is a choc lab and after being spayed she seemed to lose some of her shine for a while and moulted more than usual for the summer - she is back to normal now though so i think it is just the hormones sortiing themselves out.

Re: changes in coat

Thanks for the input, it's just that the lady at the groomers said to wait until she had her season and was spayed as both would change her coat confused1:

Re: changes in coat

My setter throws her coat badly when she has been in season she looses a lot of her feathering. When setters are speyed it does change their coat often goes like an afghans coat and slightly fluffy.
