A vets is opening in Pets At Home. Wow!

Just noticed an advert in our local press that our local Pets At Home are opening a vetinary surgery next week. It will be open 7 days a week, and until the end of May they are doing half price vaccinations as well as a £10 consult fee.

Does your local Pets At Home have a vet? How are the prices?

I think my local might be doing something like this as they are re-doing the whole store.

In Spain there is a pet shop chain like Pets at Home called Pets World and they have a vet.surgery attached to each of their stores as well.

our vet is in pets at home in romford. They are very good but also very expensive. We have taken her there once so far. She had a rash on her underside and we had her microchipped it cost us £70 for the chip and a small tube of cream for the rash
having said that the rash cleared up within 2 days

Our dog Paddy recently had an eye infection. I took him to the vets.

He was prescribed Fucidyl (??? Spelling) and Piriton.

The vet was out of Fucidyl, so wrote me a prescription to get it from the chemist and charged me £45 for the consult and the Piriton.

I paid £5.88 at the chemist for the Fucidyl (which would have been £25 from the vets!).

I then had to go back a week later, which cost me another £45 plus £5.88.

£100 for an eye infection, for which the human drugs would have cost a little over £10 (I have since found out that Piriton is an allergy tablet available over the counter for £2).

I wish I could find a vets that would either charge for the consult but offer to write prescriptions, or scrap the consult and charge only for the medication. But that would be in a dreamland! LOL

Our vet in Cyprus is very good (been to 6 until we found him) and very reasonably priced.
Consult=FREE
Consult with vaccination and worming = 25 euro
Consult with nail clipping, anal gland emptying = 10 euro
Full blood work with hormones etc = 70 euro
Just a blood count = 40 euro
X-rays and ultrasounds are 30 euro each
And most conditions that need an injection, or drugs to take home = 25 euro
Neutering male dogs = 100 euro
Neuetering bitches = 140 euro.

SOunds RIDICULOUSLY expensive what you paid for Paddy's eye. But glad he is ok now.

Yes....the store I use online for flea, wormers etc says for a lot of them that a prescription is needed. Does anyone have a vet that will just write a prescription? It is so much cheaper.

Re: A vets is opening in Pets At Home. Wow!

All vets must provide a prescription if the owner wishes, however they can still charge you for their time, their diagnosis and the full consultation, they just cant charge you for the medication!

Our local PAH has a vets practice in it, its one of the branches of my vets, so i will occasionally pop in there if i am in PAH

Ended up spending £65 on a £10 lead lol but I just cant help myself.

I only got the hamster because I went to get some more food for Akira and couldnt leave without him I was fixated on his tank lol x
