Unhappy Completely devastated

Oscar 2 came to live with us nearly 2 weeks ago. Sadly he is at the vets today after an accident

Late last night he was out in the garden with me and our other Oscar. Oscar 1 was barking at the gate so i went to see what all the fuss was about. Suddenly i heard a loud splash and Oscar 2 had either fallen or jumped into our pond (The section with the pond is fenced off with a 6ft gate for access, which he managed to open somehow)
I quickly rushed to him and pulled him out. I managed to get the water out of him and get him breathing properly. We got him up onto his feet and brought him into the house. We dried him as much as we could with towels and even my hairdryer on a low heat. We wrapped him up and he went to sleep in front of the fire. I rang the emergency vets to ask what i should do and they said to keep him warm and dry and keep an eye on him. They said to take him to the vet in the morning for a check up.

Me and my dad stayed in the living room all night with him to make sure he was ok, and he seemed to be fine. He was even able to get on the sofa a few times in the night (on top of me )

This morning, he was really sleepy. We thought it was cos of what happened last night. Anyway, i got him an appointment to see the vet this afternoon, just to make sure he's ok.
All seemed well until he suddenly started breathing strange and collapsed. He just couldnt move. So me and dad rushed him to our vet. They put him on oxygen straight away and are doing some chest xrays and other tests. He's on a drip and has been given antibiotics.
They are keeping him in for a few days to keep an eye on him, but have warned us to be prepared for him not to make it through the rest of the day

I just cannot stop crying. I feel like its all my fault

Please keep him in your thoughts and wish he recovers

Re: Completely devastated

Oh poor Oscar I hope he is ok.
It's not your fault! You didn't open the gate for him you can't have known that was going to happen. You did the right thing ringing for advice and getting him there quickly.
xx

Re: Completely devastated

I may be being a bit dumb here but is the pool to small for him to swim in or can't he swim at all, did he just panic??

Whatever the situation it sounds truly horrible for him and you and I hope he makes a full recovery.
