Oh dear!! Well, I guess he's taught you a good lesson: never to be late for him again, or he'll make sure you're late for work in return!

Did you read my mind!?
I've wanted a dog for such a long time and for the past few weeks have been starting to do some research, however, as I already knew working fulltime it's never going to work (I'm hoping to change the job situation soon, but that's another story!)
So I decided to de-sensitise myself to dogs and stop obsessing over EVERY dog I see - I can't help it So I decided to start thinking about all the bad bits about dogs, so I'm now going to read through the rest of this thread and hopefully be cured.

When getting a puppy you are in effect choosing a campanion for the next 15 plus years.

It can be hard selecting the right kind of temperament in a dog not only to suit your current situation but also circumstances which may arise in the future (the arrival of children, getting additional animals etc)

When I got a pup it transpired that his nature wasn't the best to have around children and we had to rehome him. It broke my heart

Re: Thinking about getting a new puppy/dog? You should read this first!

This thread has reinforced what I already knew deep down, and that's - we are not YET prepared for a dog's life
I'm really sad that I can't have a dog at the mo but I'm still going to do lots of reading/research and hopefully one day when my situation changes (job) and I've got all the fact and am fully prepared for a life of caring, cleaning, teaching and to live in a bomb site, THEN we'll get a dog

A great thread that has made me LOL

Do I Go Home Today?

My family brought me home cradled in their arms.

They cuddled me and smiled at me and said I was full of charm.

They played with me and laughed with me and showered me with toys.

I sure do love my family, especially the girls and boys.

The children loved to feed me, they gave me special treats.

They even let me sleep with them - all snuggled in the sheets.

I used to go for walks, often several times a day.

They even fought to hold the leash, I'm proud to say.

These are the things I'll not forget - a cherished memory.

I now live in the shelter - without my family.

They used to laugh and praise me when I played with that old shoe.

But I didn't know the difference between the old ones and the new.

The kids and I would grab a rag, for hours we would tug.

So I thought I did the right thing when I chewed on the bathroom rug.

They said I was out of control, and would have to live outside.

This I did not understand, although I tried and tried.

The walks stopped, one by one; they said they didn't have time.

I wish that I could change things, I wish I knew my crime.

My life became so lonely, in the backyard, on a chain.

I barked and barked all day long to keep from going insane.

So they brought me to the shelter, but where embarassed to say why,

They said I caused an allergy, and they each kissed me goodbye.

If I'd only had some classes, as a little pup.

I wouldn't have been so hard to handle when I was all grown up.

"You only have one day left." I heard the worker say.

Does that mean I have a second chance? Do I Go Home Today?

Oh wow that bought tears to my eyes, which means it does the job it's intended to, I think that should be in a frame in the entrance to all shelters...it might just make a point xx
