The idea is to bolt a rabbit and have the dog sit as soon as the rabbit moves
that's amazing. I've looked on many gundog sites but can not find a single one close enough. many are in essex or sussex, but that's too far. one of the downsides of living in london when you want to do a countryside thing.

Re: Gundog Training/Tracking

Hi
Great thread....we were so interested too in training that we took Alfie our beagle to our local club dog training Wirral, gundog training Wirral, MAP Working Gundogs, Gundog Club, Gundog Training, Instruction, Tuition, Obedience, Dogs for Sale, Stud, Scotland last Friday,it was amazing. The dogs were so disciplined.Gary threw a dummy for his dog and when he was half way there, out comes whistle and dog plonks down on floor. He shows you with his dog what he expects yours to do and amazingly Alfie copied.I was so impressed with it,it was £25 for a one to one session so he can see where the dog needs help, ours is in his recall!!we got there at 10am and left just after 12.30,and we are going back nxt friday for one to one again for £10.We loved it and Alfie definately benefitted from it and starting him so young,he can only get better!!! If you fancy an alternative,I would definately recommend it.

That sounds really good, and nice to know that not all the gundog trainers are snobby about the breeds

Can you only do gundog training with certain breeds?

No but a lot of the clubs are snobby.
As long as your dog retrieves, I can't see why they can't do it.
Most of the steadiness training in gundog training is gained by dummy work, so they need to retrieve

Snobby? Now why am i not surprised

Of course you wouldnt want unsuitable breeds to deal with real birds. But i dont see how its hugely different to agility and obedience; its just another form of training and and stimulation.
