Took Hudson up to the lock today. He's fantastic off the lead and with other dogs, so off we went. Half way around the loch we see a group of about 5 people with about 9 dogs walking our way. They were all off lead, but I call Hudson in close anyway - he walks to heel without the lead. About 10 feet away the people notice us. Three labradors and a collie run up to Hudson. Him, being the unfussed guy he is, started wagging his tail away and wooed at them. All the dogs seemed very friendly and they were all introducing themselves rather politely. Then as the people came closer, one of the woman literally screamed 'its one of those malahoots'

. They scrabbled to pick up the small dogs around them and started screaming at me to get my vicious mutt away from their dogs

. I was in shock. I slipped Hudson's lead over him and we just stood there - they were blocking the path. Two of them ran over, bodily pushed Hudson so hard he fell in to me and we both fell over. They started dragging their rather confused dogs away, screaming that I should be locked up and my dog put to sleep. I'm sitting on my back side in soggy grass with a rather scared malamute beside me, licking my ears lol. They practically ran away as fast as they could. I went and sat on a bench for 5 minutes to calm Hudson - well mainly myself - down. When we got to the car park the people were all still there with two police officers

. The police officers spoke to me and said they had a complaint that there was a vicious, out of control dog running around. Apparently those 'malahoots' are on the dangerous dogs list

. I explained to the officers what happened and luckily they believed me. Hudson was sitting not bothering his backside about anything. However, they did warn me to be careful. They said alot of people don't like Malamutes and see them as dangerous dogs. I think they felt rather sorry for me and my poor dog - I was rather shaken up and they offered to take me home. I declined, prefering to walk off the rather disturbing events. I am still gobsmacked. So my question is this - how many people out there believe malamutes are vicious, dangerous dogs

? I might add that the police officer said one of the smaller dogs tried to bit him and had to be put in the car to calm it down. Nicole xx
