Puppy Help

Hi Guys,

I know this is a bit of a grey area and i'm sure i'm not the first to ask this question, but any help would be great.

We have an 12 week old German Shepherd/Husky cross, and as you can imagine she is full of beans. She had her first injections on saturday the 12th of Dec and is due to get her booster on the 28th.

As she is so full of beans i am tempted to walk her to wear her out a little! What would be the risks of doing this?

Thank You

Nathan

You might get more responses if you post in the dog section

However the risks of walking herbefore she has all her jabs is that she could catch any of the illnesses she needs to be jabbed for first, like parvovirus which can kill. Try finding some games you can do indoors that will work her mind, like retreiving games or a games where she has to find a toy or treat

Peace

Re: Puppy Help

It's a shame she didn't start her vaccination program when she was 8 weeks, then she could be walked now and started socialization. Is she ok for you to carry, as you could carry her around to socialize with people and vaccinated dogs? She'll need to stay indoors for a week after her last jab, so she won't be out until early January, which by this time, the socialization period (8-12 weeks) would have been gone and she may have a harder time socialising with others.

Re: Puppy Help

I have an Alaskan Malamute who's 10wks old. He gets a tonne of exercise outside in our yard, but the best way of tiring them out is mental stimulation. Take your pup out tin the car, carry her around in new places - give her new things to try out when it comes to food - apples (without the core) frozen bananas, carrots and stuffed kongs will keep her busy for an hour or so.

I dont have any worries with Atlas when it comes to his energy levels due the amount of stimulation he gets.

That said - i havnt answered your question.
Taking your dog out when not fully vaccinated is a very personal decision. I would try to avoid it TBH and try the suggestions above. If you are determined to take her out. Keep to places where few dogs have been and do NOT let her lick, sniff or eat where another dog may have defecated. However ill say again, you will be doing it at your own risk.

Re: Puppy Help

Thanks for all the advice, its all greatly appreciated. I've just given Lexi a carrot and she is loving it.

Don't think i will be taking her out and the risks far outweigh the benefits. I will try and find some puppy games to play with her.

Thanks Again.

I don't have familiarity with issue. You should consult it with a good doctor.
