Owner Attacks Dog With A Golf Club

Meant to post this the other day...

A man who attacked his dog with a golf club at his home in Pontypridd, south Wales has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years.

David Capelin, 30, used a sand wedge to beat his one-year-old bull mastiff-cross Lucy after she ate his shopping and soiled the kitchen floor.

Capelin admitted causing unnecessary suffering to his pet.

The chair of the magistrates at the Rhondda court told Capelin what he had done was an "absolute disgrace".

The court was told that a neighbour, an off-duty police officer, heard the dog yelping in the backyard of Capelin's Graigwen home.

When challenged about his behaviour, unemployed Capelin replied: "It messed in the kitchen."

The neighbour took the golf club off Capelin and also told him to take his dog to the vet, the court heard.

But when an RSPCA inspector visited the next day, the dog had not received any medical treatment for her head wounds.

Capelin had pleading guilty at a previous hearing to injuring the dog and on Friday he also admitted a second charge of causing unnecessary suffering by failing to get its cuts treated.

Magistrates' chairwoman Anne Jones said: "What you did to your dog was an absolute disgrace, made worse by the fact you did not seek veterinary care for the animal.

"We are not going to stand back and see this thing happen."

In addition to the ten year long ban on keeping animals, Capelin was also order to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.

He must also pay £500 towards the RSPCA's costs in bringing the case and treating the animal.

Oh These barstewards make me soooo angry. The neighbour should have hit the owner over the head with club when he took it from him

That's terrible! The sad thing is in 10 years time he could do it all again - probably before as how are they going to enforce it - and I'm sure this evil man will not suddening come to love and respect dogs if he can do that.

Re: Owner Attacks Dog With A Golf Club

I am sure that this guy will be quaking in his boots at having to pay a fine, community service and incurring a 10 year ban

He should have been banned for life and received a prison sentance.

Re: Owner Attacks Dog With A Golf Club

So its okay to have one offence against a dog but the second time it wouldn't be tolerated.

If appropriate measures had have been taken the first time the second incident would have happened, or have I mis-read the post.

The guy is a b.....d and the law is an ass.

Are these bans actually enforced? Does anyone actually physically check that he doesn't just go out and buy another dog to abuse?

Re: Owner Attacks Dog With A Golf Club

Banned from keeping animals for life more like. Sorry but if someone is sick enough to do what he did to his dog, he can certainly do it again... and most probably will, just in more privacy.

It's sickening. I actually get more hit up over animal cruelty than humans suffering, that's just my personal opinion. I don't know how someone could do such a thing.
