Re: Your thoughts/opinions?

Actually we find at our kennels the dogs that get this break seem to really appreciate it, its difficult to try and explaine, but for some reason the dogs that get fostered seem to get adopted quite quickly afterwards, its as though it give them a new lease of life, the other plus side is the fosterers can give a good report on how the dogs behave in the home environment, kennel staff can only see so much with having to deal with many dogs, and its a strange environment being in the kennels, the dogs often behave completely different in a home to the kennel, so I can only see the positive side of this.

edited to add we normally foster dogs out a little longer than over a weekend usually a week and if the fosteres feel they want to keep them a little longer, we take this into consideration, if you feel you may get too attached to a dog, it may be better offering to walk the dogs instead. it is hard to give up a dog that seems to have settled into your home,

Mo

Re: Your thoughts/opinions?

I wouldnt want to take it back if my dogs accepted it and I saw it having so much fun in a home enviroment. I'd end up with them all and I'd be the one having to live in the kennels!!

I double-checked to make sure I wasn't spouting rubbish but I was right in my earlier post. The rescue I assist doesn't do weekend fostering as it has been tried and found that it worked only for those dogs that weren't troubled by kennel life anyway. Those dogs that didn't do well in kennels - who one might have thought would get the greatest benefit from a weekend break - were adversely affected by the change and change-about often finding kennel life even more distressing (refusing food and other stress symptoms) when they returned.
