Re: Siberian Husky

Utonagans are best in the Husky/Wolf looking stakes, relatively easy to train and a great family dog....

...... Bet you didn't expect a glowing reference from me for the Utonagan?

Still prefer border collies

Re: Siberian Husky

We have two Siberian Huskies. We got two sisters They are both about 10 months old now
We love them and they are lovley dogs and have a fantasic nature. They are great with children . In fact they love them . They are harder than other dogs to train but well worth it . Ours follow us around and give you the feeling they love to be where ever you are and want to be with you . We keep hearing that huskys escape and you have to have large fences, and they will never be able to be let of the lead. Well ours have no problem with that. They sit on the front porch watching the world go by and will walk off the lead and not run away. We take them onto the beach most days for them to play and go for a swim which they love.
But they do like to hunt anything that is on the back garden or around. They have had a few posums and hunted kolas(but they can do some damage to the dogs as they can be leathal) . They also like to chase Kangeroos but that is just for fun as they like to run .
Although we take them out every day for a walk but they sleep 23 hours in the day. They never get up in the moring and are generaly really lazy dogs (not that that bothers me too much ). As i write this is it 9.45 in the morning and the two dogs are still asleep in their beds where they have been since last night. They almost look at you annoyed if you wake them up in the morning
They are also to us the perfect size. Whereas a malamutes are alot larger than huskys. There is a couple of malamutes down the park and there is a puppy which is 16 weeks and bigger than ours at 10 months. Also a few full grown ones and they get very big .

Here is a pic of them

Re: Siberian Husky

i would say huskies are a great dog to have, if you have the time and commitment, they are a very loving loyal dog, some are more demanding than others and do take alot of training but if you get it right then the rewards are wonderful.

Re: Siberian Husky

we have 6 siberian huskies & they are definately not a breed for everybody they can be very destructive especially if left on their own, they must NEVER be allowed off lead as their recall is very unpredictable & their prey drive is so strong, many huskies have been shot by farmers for worrying livestock or hit by cars, as a dog bred to work they do need lots of excercise to keep them happy. They have no guarding instincts & although some can be quite aloof most of them love everybody burglers included! When they shed their fur you can practically fill a bin liner.
we have bred 1 litter & kept 3 of the 4 puppies as we were so worried they would'nt get suitable homes. Jo
