Re: house work with new puppy

Well your first mistake was naming her Molly.
Our Molly isn't too bad when I'm hoovering, she gets out of the way fast before she's hoovered up. We have another dog too so she torments the hell out of him instead of me.

Re: house work with new puppy

Best thing I've bought was a puppy pen. Can't recommend it enough. We have it as a permanent fixture in our living room and will keep it until she is old enough to be trustworthy. She is very happy to stay in there while we get on with stuff, even out of sight upstairs. Took some gradual separation training, but it was worth it.

This is in addition to her crate where she sleeps at night.

Re: house work with new puppy

our pup is now 17 weeks old he doesn't bother me at all when i am moping the floors at first he wanted to play with the mop but now he knows better (got soaked when trying to play with it) and goes and lays down on the couch till i am done then slides his toys all over the place after lol loves the wet floor as long as he doesn't slide into a cupboard door again

Murphy will quite happily sit and munch his bone or a chew toy whilst I do the lounge and if I go upstairs then he goes in the kitchen.I think he's just been used to entertaioning himself for short periods from day one as I have two children so he can't always have my undivided attention 24/7.

I just got on with it. Mika when he was very young, of course, hated being by himself, normal behaviour of a young pup) and would follow me everywhere. I didn't really mind it but when he got to be in the way and he didn't fully understand the command 'out' then i would put him in his playpen. He'd whine a lot while being in there but i tried very hard to ignore him.

Even now he stilll follows me about whilst doing the housework but i just ignore him and not give him any attention and he's just not bothered about it much now. He has the odd day where he wants me to stop what i am doing and brings his ball to me and asks me to play but aside from that....

Re: house work with new puppy

Rosie , the 7 yr old X breed, is no bother .Just lies in her bed ,if I hoover too close she will move and go and lie on her other bed (she has one in the lounge and one at the top of the stairs)

Fenris, gsd pup 12 weeks, goes into his crate...........simples .Yes he barks at the hoover .....I ignore him. When I,m mopping the floors ......he might get a bit 'mam, mam .......lemmee out lemmee out wanna play with that moppy thing!'......I ignore him ,then when the floor is dry he is allowed out and is praised for being a good boy if he has settled down and lay down!

I do some of my work from home , if I need to go into the office he just goes into his crate, no fuss ,no barking. He KNOWS mam will be back. Also because I do not want my home wrecked the crate is good for when I am unable to keep an eye on him ..ie work phone calls etc . He is also going through the 'nippy stage' when playing so if he gets totally out of hand he has 'time out' in there till we both calm down

Re: house work with new puppy

I use a crate and so far so good with Bella. She used to bark and whine when I walked away but I would leave her 5 mins and reward her if she was settled and let her out, I increased this time until it was 30 mins without her whining for me.

I also put her in the crate the first time I got the hoover out as I didnt want her to a) be afraid and b) attack it. Now as soon as I get the hoover out she takes herself to the crate and just lays there watching me until Im done and she comes straight out-she isnt scared of it just knows once its done she gets played with.
