Re: Husband bitten by dog attacking our dog

If it were me Carol, I would want to see that dog put to sleep, and the owner banned from owning another dog.

I know that some people will find my remarks offensive, but the chances are that this dog has attacked before, and next time he/she could kill. It is usually children that suffer at the hands of these out of control dogs, since they are the most vulnerable.

i think it should be taken away from the owner who obviously cannot handle this dog....but i think it should at least be given a chance and see if there is any hope in maybe helping this dog be4 the big needle comes into it u never know...it may well turn out to be a lovely dog, it obviously hasnt been socialized or eitha that thats the way its been bought up, but i still think it could at least be given a try be4 its life is ended wivout giving it a chance
if it fails then yes put it to sleep .

Actually forget that...i forgot the dog also bit a person aswell.

Its hard to answr because would that dog of bitten a person in its life if it wasnt involved in this fite wiv samson???
did he only bite the man accidently because the man was getting between them trying to part them???? or was it meant???

If it was just the dog he was meant to bite then ild stik to my first post...but if it was meant for the person aswell as the dog then thats really another matta.

Re: Husband bitten by dog attacking our dog

So sad - not the dogs fault but should still be put down as it is now a dangerous animal - even if it is well trained how do you know it still wouldn't have a little trigger that could make it do this again.

My friend had the softest dog (still a staffie though) we once saw it switch on a person and have no idea why to this day - it took three of us to hold it back and I thought it may attack us for doing so!!!

Re: Husband bitten by dog attacking our dog

Sadly sometimes it goes with the breed.
Staffords sometimes do not tolerate other dogs, but I would say this dog bit the man because he tried to stop a fight occuring.

If you are going to stop a fight then I would say expect to get bitten, from what I've read and no offence is meant here, niether owner had a clue how to stop two powerful dogs ripping each other apart.

Dogs show body language etc before they attack,it's up to us to read their body language and take control of the situation.

Staffords very very rarely attack people/children and I've always believed if they do there is a damn good reason for it.

If you own a Stafford you need to be aware that they may not tolerate other dogs, they very rarely start a fight and don't go looking for trouble, but if trouble comes looking for a stafford then that's a different story.

Re: Husband bitten by dog attacking our dog

I'm gobsmacked that people are sugesting putting a dog to sleep because of one attack on another dog where the owner clearly was not under control of it. Yes, a person got bitten, but why woudl you be suprised that someone seperating fighting dogs got bitten? I also own horses, and I am pretty sure any horse owner trying to seperate two fighting hroses would fully expect to get kicked.

I am sorry the OP's husband was bitten badly and also that her dog was attacked, but if the dog had been under proper control, it wouldn't have been able to attack anyone or anything. Further to that, if had been properly socialised from a young age, the chances are ti would never have attacked anyway. Idiot humans at fault where dogs are concerned yet again.

Re: Husband bitten by dog attacking our dog

Staffords are usually very people tolerant, the OP's husband got bitten because he was trying to pull his own dog away without causing too much damage to either dog, people always seem to get bitten when trying to get a dog away from another dog when they are fighting, its a sad but true fact.
You cannot blame the dog for this incident and to suggest it needs putting to sleep is absurd, why condemn the dog because of its silly and totally irresponsible owner.
