Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

Is it ok or acceptable to buy an adult dog from an advert, but not if it's a puppy?

Re: Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

My boyfriend and I were going to take in a pup or dog earlier this year. There was a senoir mixed dog and a 3 or 5 year old boston terrier both in need of a good home.

But we sadly made the decision not to

But we would have taken either If we decided to go through with it. I would also take a pup as long as the parents were health checked, parents were there to see, puppies in a good enviroment, etc

I would also do the same for a Cat/Kitten.

Re: Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

I got Barney from an advert so I say no, they thing is your taking a dog someone can no longer keep and not helping a byb by buying from adverts.

Although one thing I'm not happy about is I was almost lied to, it said a 6 month old puppy with this photo;

When he came to me this was the "puppy" I got;

I would say yes if its an adult dog that needs rehomed but not puppies a lot of them are from irresponsible breeders.

Re: Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

whyever not, adverts are a good place to find the dog you want. I would imagine 90percent of pups are bought from newspaper adverts so without those litters there would be an awful lot of dogless people.

Re: Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

I'd only get a pup from an ad if it needed rehoming (like Lottie was) but I wouldnt buy a pup.

Are you not against BYB's?

How do you know if the parents are treated well or what conditions they are kept in? Or does that not concern you?

Doubt if there will ever be dogless people. Visited a rescue centre lately?

Re: Buy puppy or adult dog from adverts?

Sammy came from a private ad. He was 2 years old and the owner said he would have to go into rescue as they had recently had a baby and obviously couldn;t be bothered anymore!

For adult dogs I see no problem. But puppy's - no way.
