Beagle Puppy advice please

Hi, we are thinking of getting a Beagle puppy and were hoping for some advice from those of you who may have experience of Beagles.

What is it REALLY like to have a puppy - what should we prepare ourselves for??

Thanks

Re: Beagle Puppy advice please

Puppies are hard work but well worth it
Have you looked into the beagle breed, they can be quite difficult for an inexperienced owner, their recall can be non existent

YouTube - Beagle

Have you had dogs before? if so can you cope with having a dog that could rarely never be off lead, vocal and destructive if so go for one, they are great dogs but are defiantly hard work.

Re: Beagle Puppy advice please

Puppies are hard work. I got a cocker spaniel puppy last year and he was tough. We hadn't had a puppy in the house for 14 years so it was a huge shock. But he was definitely easier than some puppies I hear about. He was toilet trained on the first day, he was good to walk, ok with collar and lead, socialised well with other dogs, people etc, and was very friendly and easy to teach bite inhabitation. I found him difficult to deal with in the garden and with my rabbits, as I didn't realise how clever he was. He still gets away with things now, but he's much more controlled. His recall fell apart when he hit his teenage phase at 1 year old and it's taken 4 months to get it back. He's now 17 months old and he's fab. I love him but it took loads of hard work to get to this stage.
